I heard the format for crowning the Walker Days Champion has changed and the high scoring Walker may not be the Champion this year. Heard the top two scores from Friday and Saturday will hunt it off for the Championship. If this is true, it is a great thing. Now the Champ will be a dog that HAD to beat some other good dogs.

Walker Days

Jim, you are right there will be a new Format at Walker Days. The new Champion of the hunt will be going to:

The 2 Highest Scoiring Walkers of Friday Night (all must be members)

The 2 Highest Scoring Walkers of Saturday Night (all must be members)

One Hour Hunt off

2 Non - Hunting Judges (1 main and 1 alternate)

UKC Championship Rules

If all dogs Scratch before the Hour is used, dogs will revert back to how they scored making it to the Final Four.

If a tie: will revert back to how they scored making it to the Final four.

This wll be in affect starting at 2011 Walker Days in Portland, Indiana

This seems to be the direction UKC is moving in. It started at the Grand American, then the Winter Classic did, then AO. Now the Breed Days are doing it. I think it is a much better way of crowning a Champion and I think you will see more breed associations adopt this way of getting to the best dog.
It places emphesis on prepareing the dogs, not the guides.

I love the new format it has been years since i have hunted Walker Days but i can't wait to hunt it this year! This should create more intrest and level the playing field!Don't get me wrong that it takes a good guide to tree coons and have a good score to make the "Final Four" but i really like the one hour hunt off as the "WALKER DAY'S CHAMP" Great idea walker ass.
