I picked up a flatbed scanner awhile back and thought I'd scan a couple of the articles I wrote for magazines over the years. And with a telephone call to my brother-in-law I able to figure out the codes to set that stuff up.

The first article I wrote for American Hunter (NRA) but one of the big name writers beat me out of thee story with an article on hunting big cats of around the world. I suppose an article about lions, leopards and mountain lions will always win out over one on hunting western lions even if the guy writing it is only a paying client. I went ahead and sent that article to Full Cry and that was that. The article was named "Scratchin For Lions" and has been used on several websites as well......

The other article is already on my website under the bear story, but on a PDF file and the way American Hunter put it out for the public. I was ask by the editors for NRA to introduce their readers to bear hunting, and that was what my purpose was with the story.

RunningBear, I cant remember those guys for sure,I might if I seen there faces I heard she put some nice ones on the ground.The write up on Hal was the TRUTH no man may have walk as many miles behind a hound in there life.When I sold here to Greg Anderson I did know what he done with her also I sold a NICE Redtick male to Vance Merrel in Vernal his name was Lonesome as good a looking hound as u could find did u ever hear of him ? Ive not had a chane to find SueSues Mothers papers but there here tucked away somewhere. Did u see the line of dogs im now hunting ?

I have some pups down in Provo,UT that are off my Light'in dog that are doing really great they are owned by Russ Jones & Reco not sure if this is how u spell Recos name but they sure making some great Big Game Hounds u might know them those guys ???

This dog was one of those crosses we made whose grandsire was Red Bomber on both sides. Sam is under a bear tree in this image and was sold a guide down south. He was five when I turned him loose and would rig a lion out of the box, and was worth double what I took for him but the guy seemed like a nice guy and needed a hound that would finish a lion track and take his dogs to the tree. That guide crossed Sam and was certainly proud of him last time we spoke............

Don't believe I know those guys but I stay to myself anymore and out of the group hunting circles. I'm glad to hear you have some dogs out here doing well on big game, cause they are sure some good looking dogs. There was a time I'd like to have had a papered female redbone, and maybe would have gone that way. But time passes and I crossed my redbone into my English dogs and there won't be any going back for me.

I did pick up a papered redbone from a guy name Don Hicks down in Shawnee, Oklahoma ten years or so back but a buddy kept that dog. We crossed her to my Ike dog and I guess that I should have kept that female myself. She was a half sister to my redbone, as the sire of both those dogs was Hoffmeister's Red Bomber. I've always liked the red dogs and have several tied up in my yard today............

Nice looking Reddog !

My wife is going to look for the pix album that the dog papers are in.

I know she was a Grandaughter of KY KOJACK on the top & On the bottom she went back to Bert Oneys Dogs but we will find SueSue mother pedigree & I will post it she sure had alot of nice English Hounds in her.

Theres a man up in WY he lives on the Wind River Res. his name is Butch he has some of that same blood I talked with him a couple yrs. ago he said he had never seen anything like them, alot of them were treeing at 4 months old might be able to get his #,If you would want somemore of that blood.

Ryan (goes back to SueSue) and Ike (goes back to Hoffmesiter's Red Bomber) under on a lion tree in their prime....

Thanks Redman, and I will make a mental note of that in case I ever need some of that blood back. Ryan was the best bear dog that I ever owned or hunted around, and fact is, in his prime if he opened on the box it was time to go catch a bear, and few if any ever got away. He had a big heart for the hunt, tough feet and the mental attitude it takes to make a mean bear climb..........

How close to SueSue is Ryan Ike ? Sounds like he was that very special one.

SueSue also had Maggards Hot Shot II in her also but we will find the pedigree I may need to mail it to u Im not that good with this computer.If u think u might want somemore of that blood I can get Butchs # I heard he was going to get out after that I dont know where u could get ahold of that blood.

Hal hasnt aged a day in his life ! must be nice. And Ive not seen him in about 30 yrs. now but did talk with him back in the Spring & was going to come out or try anyway but it all fell threw.

These are the dogs Im hunting now I got my start with a nice Redbone gip in Vernal yrs. ago.

(Ike) I know some of the blood in that Blue gip I think I still have the papers on SueSues Mother I will look them up give me a few days.

SueSue was sold to Greg Anderson when I was moving back here Greg told me those dogs were tied all over the hills from Vernal to Roosevelt,UT he said they had just keep the blood alive he told me this around a yr. & 1/2 ago

Did u ever hear of a little plott female name Midnight I sent back out there ol Howell knows her she was one tuff Big Game Hound I was told.

AND THE GREAT RED & WHITE DOGS STILL LIVE TODAY OF HALS !

Light'in is 5 yrs old & is a Coon Treeing Machine & a TREEDOG 2nd to NONE & has a cold noise on him.

Light'in is also throwing some real nice pups I think theres a pair coming to Vernal pretty soon.

Theres some pups in Provo,Utah also that are making some outstanding Big Game Hounds. There off the ((Jones Cedar Creek Line of Redbones & Light'in))

Well that Lightin Red Fred looks and sounds like a top, getrdone trail and tree hound. If some of his pups make it to Vernal I'm sure they'll cross it all over the Basin. Great photos and congrats on the hounds...........

Its been awhile since I heard the word basin, sometimes I wish I would have stayed but the Oil Fields was shuting down at the time.

I would love to be there today & see things 30 yrs. later maybe one of these days I can come back.

If a person stumbled through the Basin at the right time he might find a string of red and white hounds, or red hounds....who knows? The oilfield has seen boom and bust several times since you were here, and will most likely see more of those cycles in the future. If you get out this way let us know before hand.............

Mecham, Labrum and I had coffee together this morning and talked dogs alot, which is one of our favorite topics...

Who are these guys I dont remember them Im getting old Hal when coonhunting with us 1-2 times I really dont know him & I when Lion hunting with him & DJ Reynolds one time maybe twice.
