Do the Garmin long distance antennas work?
Got a new Garmin; don't know much about it. I lose my dogs after a couple thousand yards. Do the antennas work? What do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

The only one that really helps range is the magnetic cab mount, but you shouldnt be loseing signal at 2000 yards with the stock antenna unless your in big hills or are runnin the old 20 collars. I use yje dc30 collars and consistantly get a mile before they start droppin signal.

I have a telescoping one that I really like, it gets a lot more range than the antenna that comes with it. My friend has one of the bigger ones and we've never lost a dog on that one but they usually don't go more than a mile to get treed.

Yes they work. Here's the link to the one I bought. I lose reception at about a 1000 yards. I carry this right in my back pack.
Not sure how far it will reach. But it picks up a good strong signal out to 1300 yards.
I went this route instead of the other style's. Seemed like you'd be breaking them quite often.

Yeah I was going to say down here we never get them out to 2000 yards with out a long range antennae. I have the big hand held that will get out to over a mile. 1.2 is as far as I have had the dogs be away from me. I just switched to the folding telescopic antennae because everyone says you will eventually break the internal part of the antennae if you switch them a lot. Dont want to chance it. I was losing my dogs at seven to eight hundred yards. With the small telescopic one I got them out to 958 yards last night with no losses of signal.

I get 900 yds from the stock one. Will I benefit any from the folding one? I was debating on getting one.

Garmin is UNPREDICTABLE
I've lost dogs for some time at only a couple hundred yards.
I've also had signal at well over a mile with the stock antenna that comes with the unit.
I think it's just luck of the draw in where you are hunting.
The long range definitely improves signal strength, however, you just may be hunting in an area that loses signal at 400 yards no matter what.

Either of the two Garmin made long range antenna's work great. The truck mount gets a little better range but the long range hand held, the long extendable radio type antenna, will also get around 3 to 5 miles. I have them both. I keep the truck mount in the truck and the long range hand held in my Polaris Ranger.

I have the DC30 collars. I hunt in the Mt.s most of the time. I have seen the extended versions of the stock antenna, the telescopic antenna, the hand held antenna, and the truck mount. I need something in these mts. Thanks for the input.
If I was going to get just one, which one do you think it should be?
