deer season, part I, oh no, here we go again

we know i am totally stoked about first day of deer season.
i am up and brewing coffee at about 4:30 am. we only have to walk out back, oh well, excited.
have a bird in the oven, lunch packed and everything ready. oh yeah. first day.
here we go.
well, awhile back i told you about the neighbor with the citified people who the lord let have a gun and a picture book of a deer to hunt with. yep, there they were again. figured it. should've moved but darn, when you have the stand where they push twoards, and you USUALLY see deer, where else can you go on 20 acres without pi^&ing your husband off. so what do i do, start eating my lunch and peppermint patties at about 8 am. then i figured, it must not of been the greatest approach to have a thermos full of coffee with me. being a girl and all. no offense to anyone. first time i EVER took coffee with me. no kidding.
so what do you have to do with used coffee????? GET RID OF IT. and just so happens at that most inoppurtune time, a gun shot.. enough to knock you out of your socks, so close, and guess what. oh yeah drawers down.
as i am scanning every piece of land for any movement, i am reviving myself to warmth of clothes again. geez. and it is only 8am. i figure, great. here we go. bring it on. NOPE. NOTHING.
so an hour goes by, around 9:17, to be exact, my husband shoots. hoo rah. he never misses............ til............, i had to call HIM. what the heck. he hit a BIG one. ok. i am stoked . all right, absolutely. he doesnt know where he hit?????? excuse me?????? ok, they were booking, moving, traveling men, 4 bucks, 2 illegal in pa, 1 legal and the last , the BIG ONE. MOUNTABLE. WALL HANGER. did i mention that????? so, i chill him out and tell him to wait about an hour. let him go. he was headed twoards a close road, real close with the rest of them, and then all i heard was cannons going off every where. my heart sunk. darn, lost him. NOPE.
he called, he got out of the tree 30 min. later and had a good blood trail he told me. and he told me, and he told me, for about 3 more hours. i stayed put. i asked if he wanted some assistance, he said, ummm, up to you, might as well stay put. ok. waiting, waiting, waiting, and i offered a suggestion. now he says, he should've listened. GET THAT.
i wanted to move from my staunch position to that of one that could over look the neighbors 10 acre high brush field he went into. so, if he didnt cross the road, i would be there.
about 1 pm, i left my stand to let the dogs out and fill the wood stove. and bye the way, i made him a couple more sandwiches, and told him i was coming up.
he lost the blood trail way earlier. YEAH. i am a heck of a tracker. so, here we go. take me to the first and the last is what i told him so i could figure out how bad this sucker is hit. he says, this has gotten harder on the first blood, what he was showing me were pieces of ribs. good lord, found some more. dark red, frothy, lungs i bet after i started going, then changed my mind. liver.
so long story short, have too. you cant believe where i found the next big pile of blood. behind the backstop of a neighbors shooting range. no kidding. that deer rested behind a 4X6 piece of plywood. bear in mind 4 hours have now went past. this deer was holing up. no kidding. not laying, literally the hole was closing up and come to a drip here and there. Dean called me out of the brush to go walk twoard our property. i asked earlier if that deer didnt circle him.. man was i right. when that shootin went on across the street, must of stopped him. he circled back. luck would have it, i looked at a wet maple leaf, and dean was 4 foot ahead of me, and we found blood. sweet, downhill, wet leaves. somewhat of a track. frothy blood and bright now. could be a nick of a lung.
after a long time and a couple creeks, knew he would go downhill to the water. wives tale that holds true. he doubled back across our property, where i wanted to move to . there is some hemlocks overlooking a valley with creeks. and then steep sides to the woods. i tracked this sucker until 3 pm. done. headed to my stand where i can salvage something. what do i see around 4?????? my husband. below my stand by about 80 yards with a blood trail. you have got to be kidding me.
he said he was giving up after he came up and told me. ok. the buck was wounded and running the creek.
sure enough, settled into my stand for the witching hour i call it. here comes some orange from the house. he found a light with a blue lens. let's go look some more.
i picked that blood trail up until dark. if he wasnt gettin yelled at for walking in front of me on wet leaves, he was happy.
i lost it after another creek crossing, and he only brought one little light.
dark. i was going to take one of the dogs out while the blood was still frothy and fresh, but he said no. gosh and i listened. why.
little drops about every 10 feet, and this guy was walking.
he looked all day for this deer nothing, and needless to say, i walked up to his stand to sit today in the high wind and rain, and i jumped a buck and a ???? dont even know if they were legal or not in pa.
i know tonight for the first time, i found a tree frog chirping, took me awhile, in my stand. no kidding. and there were so many spiders wanting to web my sling to my gun it was pathetic. i dont have a fancy stand. i am in the wind , rain, and elements. my eyes are so wind burnt i cant take it.
but tomorrow. i have the woods to me. no drama. i hope. lol.
