breed standards - updated 1/1/2011

i have noticed that all of the coonhound breeds have updated dates on them for next year. however, i cannot find the differences from this year. they still say a DQ is a male w/o testicles---what about the new rule that says you can show spayed/neutered dogs??? how does that apply now? should the breed standards say something that that is now ok? esp with the new acceptance of spay/neuter???

Only difference I see without comparing them word for word is the rectangle shaped note after each breeds standard that says spayed and neutered dogs may compete.

ahha...that is what I missed. thanks...that fine print will get you every time!

but shouldn't the actual standards have the following wording removed, now with the new additional note? because now they cannot be DQ'd

DISQUALIFICATIONS
(A dog with a Disqualification must not be considered for placement in a bench show/conformation event, and must be reported to UKC.)
... Unilateral or bilateral cryptorchid....

Note: Spayed and neutered dogs may compete in all UKC Licensed Coonhound Events, including bench shows, nite hunts, water races and field trials.

--- Unilateral or bilateral cryptorchid....---

is an undesired genetic condition that should not be passed on & therefore should stand as a disqualifying fault.

obviously if a male is neutered, one would not know if there were two normal testicles before neutering or not.

IMO - when showing a neutered male, one should have to present a letter from the vet that did the neutering indicating that the male had 2 normal testicles prior to neutering. or have it on record with the UKC, especially if the male has been collected on for future breedings.

i may even bring Adonis out to show in a dual class or two
just for the fun of it since we can show neutered dogs now :-)

no, because that will still be a DQ fault unless they are spayed/nuetered. At least the way I understand it......if you have a male with only 1 testicle he can't be shown until after he is neutered.

the judge will have to look to see if the male has been nutered.
the old standards still apply to a non nutered male.

It is very hard for a judge to tell if they have been neutered or if they didn't drop, even a vet can't tell until they cut the male open... so good luck judges!

neutered cryptorchid

I have a neutered cryptorchid that I would love to show, even though he is 6 1/2 years old now. He is still beautiful. Any advice from judges? UKC?
Should I let the judge know that he was neutered because he only had one? It seems that is ok.
Does he show against the intact males or is there a special class for neutered males?

Allen covered this in the CB competition section. If a dog has been disqualified because he only one testical you need to send an invoice from the vet to UKC showing that he has been netured. Any bench points and/or degrees that have been taken from the dog would at that time be reinstated

I wouldnt tell the judge, it doesn't matter cuz he's not a breeding male anymore
