prices???

Can someone please explain to me why with everyone having such money problems (which explains when they sell a dog) and people can hardly afford dog food, gas and the rest of the prices of dogs, bur yet with all this people are asking 5, 6 or even 7 thousand dollars for a broke dog, prolly not an AMZING dog, just broke.
People like me (not asking for sympathy here), I am just looking for a good dog to run pups with, I am 18, have had one dog that hunted up until a month ago but one will be 9 and prolly be in FL with my parents next coon season and the other one is super fast and I don't feel that pups will be able to keep up with him on a long track (and I've had some nice offers on him so I might sell him) but I'm going to college and trying to get a nice hound (don't even care if it has papers) that I can run my and my friend's pup with next year. I can only afford so much for a dog (I mean really come hunt with me, I use a freakin CAR) I am not asking people to give me a dog, just an explanation for an OKAY broke dog costing 6000 dollars!

Thanks!
Lizz

Lizz i dont understand your question but then again i
have never understood pup trainer.i onced asked a guy
i looked up to what it was and he said i dont know but
if they cant keep up there not old enough or good enough
for me.

I understand your thinking on a really good fast dog not being a good pup trainer. You're right, they won't have a clue what that dog is doing and likely would be me-tooing that kind of dog. Not a good idea in my mind. But on a bright note, if you have a good prospect you don't have to have a seven thousand dollar pup trainer or even a pup trainer at all to train a good pup. You can do it with the pup all alone and have a better dog by doing it that way.

Thats why the price is high, most of them arent worth a crap. There are 2 ways to have a top dog, hunt your ass off, or spend some cash. Most people wont do either!!When you get up in that price range, your talking competition material, not just a dog that meanders along and will tree a coon.

Posted by Bluedogman on 11-24-2010 07:58 PM:

Oh!! I have no idea why the price would be so high unless it is DEMAND.. Seems from some of the responces others are looking for the same thing. A dog is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

ONE person (me) said they were looking for a dog. and there are less people coon hunting now then there ever was. Next off, it does not even have to have papers so therefore its not competition material. and lastly obviously no one is paying that price otherwise the dog wouldn't still be for sell.

dog food is high if he was worth a flip he wouldnt be 4- sale.
so why train a dog to run a track with a slow motion dog?
6yr old pup trainer.lol

Personally i have always thought broke dogs were to cheap, that is if you can even find a good one. Lets face it even starting out with the best puppy stock money can buy only a certain percentage of them make a dog. Now figure in all the nights in the woods and all the expenses of raising and training 2 or 3 to get one that turns out and you will realize that a 3 or 4 thousand dollar broke solid coon treeing dog is a bargain. If you train pups it better be because you like it cause you sure arent gonna get rich doin it.

I agree, train him by himself!

I love how your telling me to do it myself, but uh... um how in the he!! Do I do that?! Lol I really don't want to ruin this pup, he's the only one I'm keeping out of my female.

And blueticking:it
You train a pup with a slower dog (not a dog that's slow, just not lightening quick) because puppies can't keep up with a fast dog.

Yeah great deal with for an 18 year old college kid and I don't care if the dog is a freakin labrodoodle! If it can tree a coon and is tolerant with puppies, I want it!

Well my thoughts are if you want a slow dog train it with a slow "pup trainer".

If you want a dog that can run a track put it with a fast dog.

I would 100% without a doubt use the "fast" dog to train with. I got no use for a dog that is slow.

Using a slow dog to train with is going backward IMO.

I'm starting with the slow dog then go to the fast one and then single him out, it worked with the last one very well with the last one but the slow dog is too old now.

I would also like to know why a dog price is so high. i have a 13 month old pup that has been turned loose less then 10 nights and will run and tree with dogs on a good night. I have nobody to hunt with without driving an hour, im getting ready to sell out of everything so this pup doesnt go to waist, because with the price people think dogs are worth is crazy i will never have the money for one, if you love the dog to be worth that much to you then you wouldnt sell it anyways, so by selling it then 9 times out of 10 there is no personal value with it, so help people out and put fair prices on them. if i had 2 or so finished dogs and someone needed on real bad i would put a price just enough to buy me a new pup to do it all over, but different strokes for different folks.

dog prices

there are still people ouy there that has money they bought good houngs when they were a lot cheaper and started thier breeding the dog world is like the car industry way over priced some people with money will pay any amout to own what people think is the best dog in the world but i never seen a perfect dog they all have some kind of fault jmo

Posted by psiskjr on 11-25-2010 01:28 AM:

Probably ninety five percent of the ones for sale are somebodys cull. I have never seen a really good dog for sale. Some will put a price on them that they hope no one will take. I have done that myself just to get them to quit asking. Pup trainers are good sometimes but you will get a more rounded dog training them alone or with another pup.

If u buy from someone else, I will prolly fix it after I train my pups cuz wheb I breed, I only breed what comes out of my own breedings (which I only have one right now so, I will have to out cross for a little while)

personally lizz i think you should just wait til the pup gets to be about 6-7 months old, show it a caged coon, turn the coon loose in the day with the pup watching it run off, should get them fired up enough to want to go after it, let him tree it and get him excited to tree. do it again at night time, then just start taking him out and letting him do it on his own, yeah it might seem like forever for him to catch on and get going but one day he'll bump into one and thats all it might take to get him fired up! Heck take a lawn chair out with ya and take a nap just let the pup run around and track. I got one were working on right now and he's actually ruining the dog i'm hunting it with so from now on he's alone. Lots and lots of woods time is what makes these dogs what they are! Good luck with your pup! and just remember you don't need a pup trainer to make a coondog! just have fun with it!

Patience!

You are a kid, did your parents hire a kid trainer? Or did they pull their hair out watching you grow up? I see they didn't quit either. I have a 6 month old pup I started him on road kill tails, then started catching live coons in trap, I turned one loose watched it go up a tree my pup smelled around a bit but didn't tree I left the woods and the coon in the tree. Couple days ago done the same thing, he trailed the coon treed on it some I shot it out to him. I guess I'm lucky to have found a friend here local he has a fine English hound we went treed 4 in less than two hours my pup pretty much stayed at my feet, we get to the tree he saw the prais and excitement we gave the old dog he started treeing some he didn't have both feet up on the tree but a start. He started going after the dog probably 30 -40 yards and come back. point is he is big enough to keep up with any dog he wants he just is not ready yet but it will happen then I will have to invest in a Garmin.LOL! just be patient, enjoy your pup when it is ready it will follow the old dog no matter how fast it is, try letting them loose in the day and watch how much it stays with your old dog, you may be suprised. Look at the video of my pup I posted on the 22, or 23.

i don't understand prices at all if u include food, shots, bait for traps , and gas to go hunt u are trying to make it into a bus not a hobby its a hobby for me something i love i do it just to hear my hounds run nothing better if i counted all my cost all my dogs would be ten thousand a piece but they are not even close

Posted by kwlucas on 11-25-2010 05:10 PM:

NOt trying to stir anything up, but I noticed that you seem to like Redbones, when you say your looking for a pup trainer are you looking for just a redbone? Ive noticed around here that most dogs that are for sale that are not walkers are priced a lot higher than walkers of the same ability. Now before I have people come on here and say Im being biased, i was just saying that seems to be a trend around here IN MY OPINION(may not be worth nothing).

you can make him know he's doing it right by praising him up when he's got a coon and shoot it out to him. once he is confident in himself and you know he is ready, hunt with a friend and their dog. It will save you a lot of money and you won't have to go through all these dogs til you find the one your looking for....

when you get him going and you think you need a dog to hunt him with, come on over and hunt with me and josh. we've got a variety of different hunting styles in every dog. I got one that will split from him and i got one that will hunt with him. Plenty of variety, just let me know!
