later coon activity???

ive noticed that the past few weeks that the coons are moving later on in the night. the deer also arent moving until really late. The past handful of trees we got were after 12. it is getting hard to hunt past 12 cuz i have to be up at 4, lol. its wearing me out. But thankfully today is my last of work for the week. Ill be in the woods all night tonight. I reckon im not gonna leave the house until 10, before that is seems like im wasting my time. who else is seeing this kind of activity??

The moon phase has a lot to do with when the coon run. You may find out the coon will be running early this week before the moon rises.

Also, if the coon are pressured a lot, they will run late to avoid the hunters.

I think hunting pressure has far more to do with it than the moon phases. Especially with deer. Deer and coons quickly recognize hunter pressure is at a peak at certain times , for deer it is daylight hours, for coons it is dusk till midnight, and they stay hidden, denned up, don't move during those peak times and instead feed during off peak hours.

i reckon it could be the hunting pressure. the ol ringtale is getting wise. lol. i typically hunt all within a 25miles, i rarely travel farther than that. i know that we have a good population around here, because i can trap them every night if wanted to, i just dont have much reason to right now thou. over the summer ive traped dozens near the highway and turned them loose on the mountain. ive been thinking seriously about getting up around 3 or 4 on the weekends and hunting a few hours in the morning. yall ever hunting in the early mornings?

Last night we hunted early and had a rough time of it. Treed our first and only coon on the last drop. It wasn't late, but it was closing in on 9. Made a den before that and had 3 dumps without a track.

it must be nice to stike a track in 10-15 minutes. the only times that happens is when i release the coon,lol. they go 2 miles average almost everytime we drop them. you fellas up north have got it made.

i have had coons coming by thirty minutes before dark while we are deer hunting

well i figured i would give yall a update. we hit the woods around 11 saturday night. we treed first around 12 and shot a big boar about 20lbs. The treed in hole on the river bank around 1:30. all the dogs were covered in red mud, lol it looked like we had a pack of redbones,lol. then we went to another pacth of woods after that. we treed on a big white pine and couldnt seen the coon because of the limbs and pine needles. that was after 2:30. then we treed on a big white oak and and had another big boar. They stuck him hot on the edge of the field and run him about 250 yards. we left this tree after 4,but the hunting was getting good, but i was wore out by then. they are deffiently moving later. im gonna try to hit the woods early in the morning this coming weekend and see how it goes. that was our best trip we had in a few weeks. the more meat we get out to the pups, the better they are getting motivated

Ours are feeding later at night I think due to deer dog activity during the day. We treed one Saturday night at ten oclock and then didnt strike another until mid-night and then they treed three in a row as fast as we could walk to them. We call it a night at one cause the last four days hunting all day and night had caught up to me. That is the most we have treed in one night in some time. Sometimes we hunt two or more hours before we strike. A good night for us is if we tree more than one. Wish we had the coon like you northern boys do.
