Well i live in VA in the mountains and i have heard from a couple pepole that the garmin has issues with tracking dogs in bad weather or when ur hound gets in a deep holler but thats just what i hear.

I am not going to steer you in either direction except for giving you the facts.
If you want the absolute best range with little to no feedback as to what your dog is doing other than a general direction and possibly being treed (with tree switch on collar), go with the telemetry unit.
If you want cutting edge technology at your fingertips with reduced range, go with the Garmin. Depending on how your dogs hunt and the terrain you are in, the reduced range may not even matter.
Another thing is for certain. The telemetry units go down in value at a rate quicker than a new car will, and let me tell you, that is alot. The telemetry unit you sink $600 in today will be worth $250 tomorrow, literally!
I recommend finding a used telemetry unit at a good price from a trusted source and see how well you like it. At least that way, if you do not buy a piece of junk, you can resell it and come out almost, if not completely whole, provided you do not over pay for it to begin with.
The Garmin will cause you to loose some money if you buy one new and decide it is not for you, but will not be anywhere near the hit a new telemetry unit will be if you buy it new and decide you want a Garmin instead.
