Huge 34# Northern Michigan coon!

my buddy Jim Shephard emailed me these pics of the coons he got last night with his Cameron bred bluetick NITECH PR Shephard's Blue Midnight Smoke (4 wins toward Grand). The biggest weighed 34#. We routinely shoot 20 - 25# boars but this one is HUGE SOW! Not bad for a full moon hunt.

I just know he's line-bred Cameron top and bottom. He cat hunts him too. I'll have Jim post his ped. He's in Onaway, about 25 miles S.E. of the Mackinac bridge.

Thanks for the compliment guys, We treed these 5 Friday night on a very bright moon, and 4 more extra large ones last night in the rain. I have had alot of fun getting this hound to were he is at today. He was 4 years old on the 20th of this month. He hunts deep with a big clear ball mouth, and is very accurate at the tree. He has an exceptional nose and cold trails coon and bobcat nice. After a pretty substansial injury caused by a bear last fall he decided he prefers the cat and coon. He needs one first for Grand night and 2 for Grand show. I have been thinking of offering him for stud, but stay pretty busy hunting.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

Those are huge coon but they don't look that much bigger than the huge coon here( although there aren't many huge ones here) they just look jelly belly fat. Can you tell me what they have been eating there that they get that fat on?

Thanks Larry, that is interesting reading but I don't buy his theory. I would beleive the feed thing. Since they have been growing so much feeder crops here I have noticed more litters and coons getting bigger and fatter. They have started raiseing a lot more corn, maize and beans. It seams to be letting them breed more than once a year and stay more healthy.
That is why I was asking what those big old things had been eating. I got a 28 lb. coon that wasn't as fat as those. There not common here but there are some and you allways find them were there is a good food supply like town trash.
