I just read a lot of threads about cheaters and bad sportsmanship. I have only been in 2 were people didn't get along or some whining was going on. I was just wondering what % of casts this happens in.

Maybe one cast in ten is not much fun.

I've been on two casts with what I would call bad sportsmen.

One cast we were down to a two dog cast. My dog had first tree and the other guy flat refused to see a coon that was sitting plain as your hand about 15 feet off the ground on the end of a limb. Said he was sorry then wanted to recast after time was out to bump up the score, I had the card and said no and went home.

The other cast had a guy whose young male dog wanted to breed everydog in the cast but he refused to admit it and accused the other 3 cast members of hunting dogs that were in heat. Thankfully he quit after the first drop without ever admitting that his dog was the problem. After that first drop that was one of the best casts I have ever been on. Had 3 hunters and 3 spectators left and we cut up and carried on and saw some good dog work and another boy in the cast ended up with a first place win on his female.

anyone that has more than 10% bad cast needs to look in the mirror and will probably find the problem.

Im probably gonna disagree here. I would have putt he numbers 10, 25 50 and over 50. Guess it depends on what you consider unsportmanslike. the thought of going to 100 hunts and only having troulbe in less than 10 to me is absurb.

Theres a 25% chance everytime you draw cast of having a grump in the cast.

Mcdonalds says you have 1 in 4 chance at winning. Anyone bought a large fry with the 4 tabs. the 2 I have bought were without winners. There chances of winnign are not 1 in 4... slackers.

I've had only one bad night when I was ganged up on. The next night I ended up with the same guys but my dog and I never gave them an opening and we spanked em real good. Heck even the first night wasn't so bad because my dog did the best job in spite of what some others decided to write on the scorecard. that second night was very satisfying indeed.

If i had a bad cast 25% of the time or more I'd quit if you go to a hunt thinking you are going to have a bad cast then you probably are and some of its probably you. I have been on 100+ cast the last 3-4 yrs and have only had 3 or 4 bad ones.

i seem to only have a bad cast every so often. idk why, but for some reason every hunt i go to around my house they give me the card (i hate getting the card) . when i get to the woods i shake everyones hands and intorduce myself and before we turn dogs lose. i say. lets have a good hunt, strike them dogs when they are honestly on a track and treat everyone the way you want to be treated and i seem to very rarely ever have a problem.

one thing i absolutely HATE though is when a guy has a kid handle his dog and he spectates and all he tells the kid to do is strike and tree his dog and thats all there is to it! and when i minus the kid i explain everything and the guy acts all pissed and the kid feels like he is getting shafted!!!

folks, please...... if you come to a hunt.... please know the rules. there is much more to it than strike and tree ole sally

For me I would say even less than 1 in 10 have been bad. I agree with Jack in that most guys that complain about having problems all the time are the guys nobody at the hunt wants to draw out with. And I don't mean because they are packing a great hound. It's because THEY are the pain in the but.

If you go looking to have a good time most likely you will. I think most problems arise when someone thinks someone is cheating. Usually one party or the other is not trying to cheat or cheat anyone else. Most of the problems I have seen or heard about was due to a lack of knowledge of the rules. If you know the rules pretty good and can show others on the card and remain calm doing it..... you'll probably not have problems on more than 1 out of 10 casts IMO.

I think it depends on your level of tolerance and your opinion of bad sportsmanship.
If you consider someone not wanting to take they're minus, or pitching they're dog, or voting whichever way benefits them most, bad sportsmanship, then I'd say it averages more than 10%.
Several UKC casts you get some fellas that are just plain ignorant and aren't packing a coondog or don't know the rules. I don't always consider those bad sportsmanship because I don't think they intend it to be that way. They just don't know any better.
I'll agree on one thing, your personal approach to these hunts has a big difference in your overall experience. This year I made a point to attend fewer hunts, tried some new clubs, passed up some hunts that I wasn't interested in, and took the approach to just take them as they come.
I had a couple casts that weren't much fun but more due to ignorance than bad sportsmanship, and a couple I'd rather forget.
Overall I enjoyed the UKC events I attended this year more than ever.
