-- Garmin fail tonight. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=380999)

Garmin fail tonight.

Hunting tonight my Dc 30 collar [which usually gets 1/2 to full mile of range] was failing at 100-150 yards. It would occasionally get in the 400 yard range, but not often. THis collar is only about 3-4 months old. All stock parts- I have not replaced the collar or messed with the antenna in any way.

Very disappointed to not be able to pick up a dog that you can actually hear running through a cornfield. Not even barking- just running through noisy corn.

I put a beep beep on next to it and used it three more drops- same results all night.

Truly, sounds like the antenna is broke. It's usually that exact same thing, 200 yards.

Take the antenna off and see if it drops your reception.

If it doesn't get significantly worse without the antenna then your antenna connection is broken on the inside.

replace your antenna on the coller. it may appear fine , but that is the prob.

Thanks for the input guys. It is not the handheld- it was tracking two other collars at 600-1000 yards. I suspect an antenna issue as well. I do have a spare- will replace it and see if it helps. If not I would assume Rip is correct that it is an internal connection to antenna.

Yep it could be either antenna but since it was tracking the other collars good my bet would be with the collar antenna like someone else said.
