Pup training question

What would you do with a young dog who is opening (not full throat) but opening on track, finding tree (per garmin showing treed) staying there for a few minutes but not barking up? This pup has had very little exposure to coons. 2 caged and turned loose that he treed. goes all the way with broke dog and trees a little but may just be barking at treed dog. Never seen a coon hit the ground.

Come next Friday night I'd tie him back at every tree he was at with another dog and let the other dog have the coon. If after a few times of this he's not treeing then it might be time to try another dog.

How old is this pup?

pup

He is about 10 mths old but hasn't had alot of exposure. He's had 2 turned loose to him, first one he barked on track and found the tree second he did really good on and treed slobbermouthed but the coon was low. He hasn't seen any coons on the ground so I will try that. I'm thinking ideally i can catch a couple of more in a trap and get one out to him that he trees. I like him and hope he catches on. It's on me to give him a fair shot and i want to make sure i do my part.

you might release another coon but not anymore. then you should hunt the dog alone a few times before hunting it with the older dog. switch back and forth so the young dog will have to do some of his own homework and still get the comfort of being with the older dog.

This is working wonders with my three month old pup. The author is on the forum as Topdog and if you purchase he will answer any and all questions that you have. He has 45 years of training and has produced something like 52 nite champions.

Hope it helps
