I am old fashion. The best way to build muscles is by a good diet and good old fashion work. I am not a fan of supplements. 90% of all supplements end up sitting on the ground if ya know what I mean?

I agree Larry, take the money you put into supplements and invest in a better feed.

You will notice way more difference in your dog by feeding a premium level feed like Pro Plan or Diamond Naturals than by adding all the supplements in the world to a 20 dollar a bag run of the mill feed that is full of corn and by products. The only supplements I give mine are a fish oil pilll daily to pups and several times a week to older dogs.

and if you cant hunt them into shape you can get a harness and put on the dog and tie a 20 pound weight to it and let them drag it around

I used to live pretty close to a road and didn't want my dog to get to far so I would chain him to a 1/2 concrete block and let him run loose for exercise. He got pretty muscled up...

i sell this product. it is made by animed and is mostly creatine. it will break the muscles down faster during exercise and will therefor build muscle faster. i have sold A LOT of this product, and it has continued to sell for years now, so i assume it is doing as advertised. it is big with the pit bull set. animed is a top quality formulator and manufacturer.

It sounds like you need to try a different brand of food.

I have a very athletic red bone male that will run all day long if you let him. He weights in at a whole 60 lbs. I can't put weight on at all. He's just that way.
I also have one that weights almost 90 lbs of pure muscle and bone who also never stops unless kenneled.

They are on the same feed ~ fed the same amount everyday, twice a day. Dogs are like people, they are not all built alike. Some folks like the big build, and some like the streamline build.

He'll get there! You just keep him in the woods!

i was wondering about this too, my Rotty is a very lean dog, and i want to build muscle. he has a good muscle TONE but not a lot of muscle itself.
i have tried 5 different kinds of dog food: Purina Dog Chow, Science Diet, Diamond Gold (along with another type of Diamond), Pro Plan and feeding him raw meat... i was affraid that raw meat would make him "blood hungry" but it didnt have ANY affect on him (but a huge one on my wallet).
i also add milk replacer and eggs to his food daily, the food i am feeding him now is a high fat mill brand, cheap and has put some weight on him. he looks like he's part greyhound with his deep cheast, long legs and skinny abs... so i also want him a little fatter.

thanks for the help everyone!

Larry I feel the same way as you do. I figure the best way to build muscle on my dog is to get him in the woods.

However the best way to run a dog down is to hunt them hard. How do you replace that stuff that you run out of a dog?

My dog is an athlete, even if the guy turning him loose isn't. I am gonna have to rethink my position. I know that when I am sick, my doctor recommends that I load up on vitamins, but he also said to be reasonable with the amount I am taking because essentially, your body can only use so much, then it flushes the rest.

So here I am...looking at my hound who looks run hard, and needs something to pep him up a bit...

I think the route I am gonna try is throwing him a bit more feed. I feed Ultra Advantage Green Bag. Just switched over from the Purple bag.

Rambling? Yes. Why, cause I don not know the answers!

Keep em coming boys.

I agree, but if you hunt hard as you're saying, sometimes dogs need a little extra to keep them in top shape. Especially if you have a dog like my female who doesn't each the dish too when you feed her... if you know what I mean.

Stop hunting your dog, kennel him, and feed a high protein diet. He will have plenty of muscle. The first time you take him out after a month or two he will fall out after a drop or two. Then you'll rethink your muscled up position. Conditioning a dog to peak performance takes more than good feed and water. Plenty of rest is also involved, as well as common sense, an understanding of canine biochemistry, and a thorough "forgetting" of all the wives tails you have learned over the years. Be wary of taking conditioning tips from those who feed cheap and argue its benefit.

just so that everyone is aware I AM NOT feeding him to muscle him up to hunt him, i am muscling him up to intimidate people that come over to steal stuff. we have had a problem with it lately (mostly dog stuff) goes missing. he is not mean by any means, a big baby, but he doesnt look mean, at all. so he doesnt scare people... i know this sounds like i'm making a dog to attack people but i most deffinantly am NOT, just a scare tactic
