Bluetick dog keeps hitting the road shes brought down on

I have a 2 year old bluetick female. i went hunting last night and we walked about 45 min back into the woods on some government land. we turned her loose on top of a hill, she went back down the hill hit the road we walked in on and ran back twards the truck and then ended up in someones front yard that was about half a mile from us. this is the second time shes done this to us in the same area. brought her back home turned her loose on a hundred acre track of land and she went and treed not a hundred yards from us. i just dont know what to do about her running the roads. i wont her to hunt semi deep 3 or 400 yards but not a half mile. what do i do? and anyone got any answers on why shes running the roads? Thanks

is it possible she winded a coon back on the road and headed back to it? I was driving down the road and my dogs went nuts in front of a woods we passed . we went about a half mile south of that woods and turned the dogs loose and my dog went back up to the other woods and treed a coon.

why did you walk 45 min. back in the woods?
i would turn her loose at the truck when she
hit the rd call then burn her ass

I used to have one that pissed me off all the time. He would wind a coon out of the box and as soon as I turned him loose he
would turn around and go down the road and tree it. I started
backing the truck in the way I wanted him to go and that fooled him!!

Ain't it h*** when you have to fool a coon dog to keep him from treein coon?

I have one that pulls a u-turn just about everytime you turn him in a field, often wondered if pointing him the opposite way I wanted him to go would work but never tried it.

I don't think it winded a coon or it wouldn't had ended up in someones yard unless it was treeing there. I control the direction my dogs go by pointing them in the direction I want them to go and then walk a wase in that direction if needed. If they go the wrong way I call them back and send them again and walk a little further. Works for me and the dogs catch on pretty fast. Of course if they hit a track going the other way they go and I let them if I can.
For distance I do the same thing. When they get as far as I want them to hunt out I call them back and send them again in a new direction. Just like training a bird dog how far out to hunt. Works well you just have to have a good come command in them.

you said you walked in 45 min, is it possible the dog was tracking your scent back to the truck and then hit the road, seems once they get on a road they stay on them intill they hit a coon

Did you raise the dog? If there was a previous owner he may have road hunted her. We road our dogs a lot down here in Florida. When I turn mine loose they head down the road which ever way I am headed. But they will come back and go in the woods if I call them and walk in a few steps.

For some reason hounds like to run roads instead of woods at times.believe me..its very frustrating!!.I've seen some good well Balanced hounds even do this.I think they sometimes like to test your patience at times.hounds going in the opposite direction..is part of hound hunting unfortunately!.at times, its very rarely...they hunt in the direction you want them to hunt,or the direction you cast them.theres been many occasions ive cut hounds in the direction ive cut them, and they end up striking in the opposites direction you cut them.very annoying at times!!.hounds will be hounds.
