ot- need help wifes car is overheatin!!!
I have been piddlin with this car for a month now. Please sombody thats a mechanic throw a bone. I have flushed the system and put two different thermostats on it and took the radiator out today and took it and had it rodded out. Still the temp fluxuates between 190 and 210 and eventually drivin it like that a couple days it will overheat big time again. Also the heat aint workin either. Is the whole system stopped up or what.

Could your belt tensioner be failing? I just replaced one on my daughter's car, it was not putting enough tension on the belt to turn the pulley on the water pump. Also, it could need a new water pump.

Well, since you have no heat, your heater core is probably stopped up. That may be fun to change!
Could be the water pump as well.
Thats what im thinkin, the whole system needs flushin out real good and the heater core is stopped up. Its a 03 grand prix gt. All the hoses are good, im not loosin any water, water pump seems to be workin fine as well.

overheating
top of t-stat housing should have a air bleeder screw sound air lock
Head gasket
It might be the head gasket we had one that did the same thing, so go get it pressure tested to se if it is holding pressure?

Sounds like air lock or bad head gasket to me. Dont know a whole lot about gm cars, but had a PT cruiser at work that would be fine for like 3 weeks then all of sudden then just overheat. Had a small head gasket leak.

you can call me if you like 571-233-5819 and i will walk you through the diagnosis. 1st ina lot of cars the thhermostadt is in the lower hoses therefore the block has to be filled seperate/2nd the reason you dont have heat is there is no coolant in the heater core.because it is the highest point in the cooling sys. so if you can bleed it out and it works for a little while than you have a headgasket leak. theyy have a co tester that checks for cos in the cooling sys. im tiired of typing call me!!!! or good luck
Thanks alot guys. Ill probably be callin you potomac, mjones. I gotta get it fixed, my wife is gettin tired of drivin my old truck lol.

Is the fan runing
Since its a GM product, Im assuming there are some basic similarities between pontiac and chevy. I know this is gonna sound stupid, and its GM's way of taking care of their engines when the soccer moms arent smart enough to watch the temp gauge, but try turning the AC on max with the engine running and see if your electric fans are working. Also, as crazy as that sounds, if it does overheat while shes driving it she can turn the AC on and cool the engine off. Yeah, I know, thats a slap in the face of us old school car people to turn the air on with an overheated engine, but doing so should automatically engage the fans. The only GM engines Im aware of that are "reverse cooled" are the 93-97 LT1 engines. PERHAPS yours is also though. If so, you should see two brass bleeder screws. One in the top radiator hose and another on the thermostat housing. If you have those, with the engine running at normal temps, CAREFULLY loosen those screws until only coolant seeps out with no air mixed in.
Whether or not the heater core is stopped up should have no effect on your engine cooling, however, with an engine thats running hot, typically the heater doesnt work! Cant explain that one! Hope this helps and fixes your problem. If not, I suspect a blown head gasket.

Decided this mornin I had spent enough time playin mechanic. I took it to the radiator shop. They done some kind of test on it and said it had either a cracked head or the head gasket was leaking. Hummmmm, that sound expensive!!!!!!
