rubbing alcohol for over heating dog
Hunting in this heat is hard and unhealthy for our dogs but we all still do it. Carry a bottle of plain ole rubbing alcohol in your truck or dog box and if dog gets to hot just simply rub his ears inside and out and his paws with the alcohol it will drop his body temp. 5 degrees within 20 seconds been doin it for years and works everytime. An old school vet told me that trick 25 years ago. Dont forget to have jug of COOL water on hand also. hope ya try this it really works. you know how your skin get cold when you put rubbing alcohol on it.

You post is quite informative and correct BUT I would like you to think a little further down the road. We teach our patrol dog handlers to take the alcohol ALONG with them while they are tracking a subject. It may (and has) been too late if you are to deep to get the dog out of the woods in time. BUT YOU ARE CORRECT IT WORKS AND HAS SAVED DOGS.
A ounce of prevention (taking it with you) = A live dog.

Alcohol evaporates quickley which in turn cools. Works well to cool a person down if they have a high fever. Works on animals ,but has to get to the skin.

The alcohol is a good idea, but its going to take alot of it and its hard to get alot on the dog, quick. Once it evaporates, its gone and doesn't do any more good.
You can take a cooler, put alot of ice in it with a large bath towel in the bottom. If you need to use it, you now have a wet, ice cold towel you can place over the whole body of the dog. Use the edges to rub down t heir belly, between front and rear legs, and so on. I don't know a way to cool their whole body down, any quicker, in the woods.

I usually have the CH3CH2OH alchohol in the toolbox for me to Warm Up with in the winter. Will this work too? I would hate to carry it around with me, it might be too tempting.
When we used to race greyhounds we had to do it all threw the day no matter the temp. you either ran your dog or scratched him. we used alchol all the time as did other field trilers. works good.
