A.O Question?

Are there alot of barking dogs non stop or is it some what easy to have a conversation without being interupted by barking dogs?

You'll hear dogs somewhere on the grounds at almost any given time day or night. Worst in the day time and if you're unlucky you might have an idiot close to you at night. If camping you can get out away from the center of things with electric but water is harder to get around the edges and of course if a barker pulls in and camps next to you it's a wasted effort. Day time don't bother me unless it's mine and I put them up at night so they behave but everybody don't and like the man said it's a dog event and there will be barking and brown stuff.

There is no comparison. AO has camping all around the facility not just in a fenced in lot. You can get away from the dogs barking at AO for the most part. Just be sure to bring plenty of hose and extension cord!

I camp off the grounds about 5 moles away and drive to the grounds in the morning. And then go back and sit around a campfire which from what I understand is not aloud on the grounds.

Cleo - they rent golf carts for people to get around on. Does that tell you anyting about the size? I'm not even sure you can cover the entire place on foot! LOL!!

I have never been fortunate enough to go to AO before this year, so the info is greatly appreciated! I do understand that it easy to get around the town, tho. That should help me some!

I do carry bark collars for when needed. But, I am not always there at the moment it's needed....

I do pick up my pooches poopy, because I don't want to wear it...

But as the saying goes....SH*T happens!!
Especially around hundreds of dogs!!

I started collecting poop bags today. As for barking.....OH well. I hate it for ya. "They are just dogs....."

You make others around you mad and come time to hunt youre dog is wore out from barking all day. I just can't believe the excuse "everyone elses dog is barking".

I think we all agree with you. Dogs should have a level of self control just as their owners. I don't think anyone was trying to overstep any boundaries, just being said you are going to be in a place where there will be situations that will not be controlled. With that many people and that many dogs, there is bound to be a lot of excitement.......I know I'm excited! I hope I can show some serious self control! After all, "I'm only human!"

I will be the first to admit that a dog barking at the motel at 5am while I am sleeping ticks me off!! However, during the day around the grounds there is no possible way to keep that many dogs quiet. People have different levels of tolerance for barking also. Some people are unphased by it while others are completely annoyed.

Those that are unphased will likely allow their dogs to bark whenever at whatever they want. I personally do not tolerate what I call "nuisance" barking out of my dogs. And it sounds like you don't either. But lots of people do. And if your neighbors leave their truck/campsite/etc the dogs may bark while they are away.

I think we should respect out neighbors. I think people in motels/camp grounds should not allow their dogs to bark while they know others are trying to sleep. I am usually up walking our "show" dogs by 6am. The hunters in our motel will not have even been in long so I am very careful to keep my dogs quiet so they don't wake the sleeping hunters. That's just me! I can assure you everyone in motels is not that respectful of others. But during the daylight hours around the grounds I am afraid you will just have to deal with it.

You really do have a good point...There are many, many that tie a yapper out and leave it for the entire day..That is rude to anyone that may be around. I have just learned not to expect much out of these type folks and try and make the best of it.

But, I do have to say one more time...Please except my apologies now....Cause I will never make the claim that mine won't ever bark. But, what I can say is, they do know better and they know I will address the situation when they do happen to forget in all the excitement

I hope you have a perfectly pleasant experience at AO

I also camp off grounds and really enjoy our time back at the camper around the camp fire. Quiet and peaceful. Less stressful on my dogs and they do not have to stay cooped up for 5 days.

I love AO and yes it is HUGE but I plan on going every year as long as I can !!!
