ND CHA 2nd Annual Raccoon Hunting Sporting Day for Youth

Dear ND CHA Members, Leaders and Friends,

Saturday, august 14 at 4 PM, is the day for our next annual youth event. We've been working with ND HEA and have a budget allocation of approximately $1,300 for food, caps, safety lights, etc.

Same as last year, ND Hunter Educator Association folks will purchase and bring to the event the food, caps, safety lights and ammunition. We are arranging for the potties (Jay B.). I already delivered to the clubhouse a new charcoal barrel grill and will bring some cooking utensils and a griddle. I also will bring safety glasses for the kids.

Concerning the cooking, we will need some of you to plan on helping with the cooking. The new grill is pretty big and should keep up with the workload. Might still be a good idea if someone has handy a gas grill to supplement cooking if needed. I plan to make burgers/brats/dogs with chips, etc. for supper, and cook a breakfast in the morning for whomever sticks around. I don't have anything planned to eat for people as they return from hunting. If something like rolls, etc. are easy to handle and available to you please bring them out.

I've been asked by a few of you what do you need to bring. Here are my suggestions:

- Bring pop, water for yourself and a few to share. We ran short last year and probably will again.
- Bring lawn chairs.
- Bring skeeter spray.
- Bring hand cleaner.
- Bring a dog or two for the kids to pet, and to hunt with in the evening.
- Bring garbage bags so we can pick up as we go.
- Bring whatever you need to camp/sleep if you plan to stay on the grounds. Also, there are no lights or water at the clubhouse yet.

As mentioned above, we need each of you to either help cook, record all persons’ names for attendance tracking and get signed waivers, enter a breeds display/show, pick up trash during and after the event, provide rides to the woods and back with the kids, pitch in wherever needed, etc. We also need a good camera person to bring a digital camera and take pictures. I forgot who did this last year but the results were great.

Last year was a big success due to everyone’s participation. ND HEA judges this event on the basis of how many kids we bring in. They really like to see kids that are not already involved in hunting and judge the event accordingly. You and your kids are very welcome and should not be left out regardless. Just bring along another kid or two.

See you Saturday. Let me know if you have questions in the meantime.

Forecast is for good weather tomorrow. I think we are going to end up with a good number of people with youth from the local area and across the state.
