Mule

I'd advise it in the ANF, BIG Country.. Lots of bears, hope your dog is broke, porcupines too.. Take plyers, you may need em.. Lots of logging roads, be careful roading dogs is not legal in Pa. although alot of guys do it. There are tons of coon around the Kinzua Dam lake [Allegheny Resivoure] Hunting from a boat with dogs is done there some. I spoke to my buddy he doesn't have a mule to use in the ANF he said that is really what you need to hunt it right. Deer are spotty, some areas hold more than others. Used to be a deer behind every tree in that area, but no more too heavy of Doe shooting encouraged by the Game Commission ended all that several years ago.... You will be in great country with lots of game..... Take a fishin pole too...You will see...

Tons of porkies up in the ANF, but should be some pretty decent hunting.

The oil and gas development up that way the past several years has really opened up alot of ground. It seems it cut the 'big woods' up into 50 acre blocks.

If you're near Indiana, PA, look up jculler8 on here. He's pretty handy to there and has some nice dogs and nice hunting.

Hey, thanks for the info this is the best in info I have got on the ANF sounds like I shoudnt have any problem treeing alot of coon! The only thing that I was worried about was the bear! Im not worried about my dog running them I just dont want them around me!! Have you guys ever had any problem with them while coon huntin in that time of the year?

bear

Hunted those mountains for years. Porkies are the worst that will happen(lots of them too}. Dogs have treed a few bear. The black bears up there are more scared of you then You of them. Also a few bobcats too, they run for miles sometimes. My dogs never ran deer so didn't have to worry about that. Coon are plentiful.

also, ontop of porkies, bear, cats, deer, theres yotes.....

i have NEVER turned a dog loose up that way just because of the porkies...always wanted to take them to the big woods and tree some big ole mountain coon...but the porkies keep me from doing so...

Sounds good! I hunt amost every night we have lots of deer, bobcats, we dont have bear but I have hunted around them in Jackson county NC thats in the App Mts.. Never been around any Porkies dont really know what to expect if I have any trouble with them, guess I better keep some PLIERS with me right?

Keep pliers on you and a blanket in the truck , to wrap him up in if he fights you removing them. If your hound has some brains he will learn quick not to bite 'em. lol
