Last nights hunt

Last night we took our 8 yr old pete dog, our 3 yr old mater, and 9 month old blue dog Gunner, and 7 month old plott pup Angel. first drop the pups came back, while pete treed in a cutover. the briars and trees were so thick it took us about 45 min to walk about 30 yards. couldnt shine the tree so we went to our next drop.
turned them all loose and Gunner got first strike followed by Mater then Angel then Pete. we turned loose on the hottest track this summer yet. Pete and Mater left the coon and the pups bogged down. Pete came hooked up. it took the pups about 20 min to run the track to pete. we shinned and finnally found it. The pups did an amazing job. Was so proud of them.

The bad news was i have no idea what Mater was doin shoulda been on that tree. the other Pete got to hot for his age and couldnt walk after treeing. was collapsing. had to get him down to the creek and let him recuperate. washing him down. Now hes ok and wanting to go again.

sorry for the long story, just really proud of my pups. 3rd time in the woods.

sounds like you had a decent hunt. i would hunt one pup with the old dog. alot of the time to many pups together is like a bunch of young kids together. they tend to get to playing with each other an goofing off.

we did take the camera in to the tree but my stepson had the camera in his pocket and was turned on. it killed the batteries.

Sorry to hear about the old man... Bob and I have a soft spot for old dawgs... My bluedawg is about 8 now, retired for yrs, just our pet... Just survived a bout of pneumonia... and now facing knee surgery!... Hate to see them age if they are working or not...but I imagine your dog is MUCH better of still working(Ours IS a happy pet... but they ARE hunting dogs!) We are battling BOREDOM right now... Anyway, Hoping your old boy feels better soon!
Hope those pups leave the deer alone too... I can't imagine training them to hunt. Only dogs I hunted(in the 70s) were well trained and owned by friends... ALOT Easier that way. Now a days if we get to the woods it will be just to slowly follow friends and their hounds... Only been out once since the 70s... and hope the future holds a FEW more hunts for us... till then... We LOVE the stories and the pix... Hoping we hear about your older dog feeling FINE and getting out when it cools down!
Take care, have fun and HappyHunting, Heather (Bob is at "band night" in the basement...LOL...)
