Young on the chain, Im bad about waiting till they are older and its hard on them. More important than age on showing a coon is not to push them, show them one when you want, but if they dont get after it wait at least a month before you do it again.

I like to have my pups on the chain by three months. When I had/have a bunch of dogs I would drag the cage coon through the dogs as I fed up in the evening. When the pups were baying hard at it I then take them off the chain for some one on one work. By six months all mine are usually running in the pen. I take them to the woods at around nine to ten months. They get to run thier first bear/hog by twelve months. Coon only pups I start to work at around nine months in the woods.
