runing hounds in the rain?
do you run bear in the rain? will it mess with the hounds or will they even care
Rain bears
You know Ive had to hunt bear in the rain before. For a few days, it wasnt a horrible downpoud but it was steady rain and it had been raining. Well we saw 3 bears up on the side of a mountain and the dogs struck off the road and ran up that way but once they got to the bottom of the mountain its a huge rockslide and they had a hard time after that so we went to go help them. The rest of the hunt was horrible for other reasons including the rain but yes it does mess with the dogs. It washes away scent and in those rocks they couldnt move it well at all. I would still try hunting in rainy conditions but would prefer not too. Good luck hunting!

Down here we always hunted rain or shine. Once the bear is jumped it usually doesnt cause a problem unless you are running one of those that is crossed with racehorse. LOL. Our season in Ga. used to only be six days so we hunted regardless. The main problem we had is finding tracks. We never had to rig down here because we have sandy roads and just put on a track. It has a big advantage over rigging because we can select the biggest bear to hunt.

rain
I think the dogs like the rain as it cools them off. Some hunts are good and some not so good. Depending on how hard its raining. If the dogs are already trailing it usually turns out good. If you strike off the rig it usually turns out good.
