Coyote encounters
Anybody having trouble with coyotes? Last night my young Black and Tan left a good track and came running in with two coyotes just inches behind him. They didn't even seem to be too scared of me either. I live in Richmond Missouri and there have a been a few other houndsmen with the same issue.
i've seen them up here in new york come in on the dogs been lucky .started runing lighted collars on my hounds its been ok since then but if they are chassing bobcat , fisher it can be a long night
We are having big problems here in nc with them. One of my dogs was attacked a neghibors pet was taken 20 feet from him in his yard with him standing there another friend of mine like to lost 2 dogs one by them. I have had several bad encounters with them lighed colors don't work as good as you thank when there is a pack of them

I'm afraid it's only going to get worse too. With hide prices being low, no one traps them anymore, the coyote population is going to skyrocket. A man in central Missouri had two dogs treed, coyotes castrated one dog and cut the other one up bad.
This past winter A friend of mine had a dog Kill a younng one...
We have had several dogs attacked here...one loosing hus tail and another being badly injured...
had 2 rush me about a month ago while walking a pup..they are dead....
best thing I can tell you is start callin em up and killin em....Thats what we do...might take some time but believe me I had rather do that than loose a good dog or even worse have one ruined at a young age by getting attacked.

what did you do with the one in the 3rd pic? Drag him behind a truck? :-)

they consider are hounds intruders. even the lighted collars wont help much if they get to close. best thing to do is to thin them out got to try and keep them in check!

Ive had individual hounds go right through packs runnin track and never had any problem. Had a bitch get after hounds one time but that was when they treed right on top of her den. We are in Okla. and have as many as anywere and nobody has trouble here that i have heard.
I see and hear more coyotes than you could imagine but I've never heard of anyone around here having any run-ins with yotes while coonhunting. I will definitely have a different outlook on them if one of my dogs get hurt.

I just got back into coonhunting. I used to hunt 4 or 5 nights a week back in the mid-nineties, and never had a problem with coyotes, never hardly
ever heard em, but 2 out of the last 4 nights I`ve hunted, I had two packs
within a hundred yards of the dogs. One of the nights, I just had a seven
month old pup. Needless to say, I caught him quick. A friend told me the
collar lights won`t hardly do nothing, but he put a bell on his dog and has
had no trouble with yotes since!
Umm... I didn't know you needed a scope and a tripod on a sawed-off shotgun!

Out in western Pa where our hunting camp is, they have alot of coyote hunts just about every weekend after buck season.
Maybe you guys could start up a few of them to benefit you local hunt club or firehouse. they are usually like $10 to get in and payback is pretty high on a few of them.

HEY FELLOWS TRY THIS. AN AREA THAT I HUNT IN PENNSYLVANIA HAD ALOT OF YOTES. THE DEER HUNTERS IN THAT AREA GOT SEVERAL ROAD KILLED DEER, PUT THEM IN ONE AREA AND COVERED THEM WITH ANTIFREEZE. DEAD YOTES ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE LAND OWNER TOLD EVERYONE IN AREA TO KEEP HOUNDS OUT OF AREA FOR THREE WEEKS. THE DEER HUNTERS CLEANED IT UP AND BURNED CARCASSES. THEN WE WERE ALOUD TO HUNT.
MY PROBLEM WITH THIS IS OTHER ANIMALS INCLUDING COON WILL EAT ON DEAD DEER.
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK. I DID NOT HUNT THERE FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS.
