two clicks is to much, pencil eraser is enough one dose one day and it gets tapes
if im not mistaken one click is per 250lbs of horse....lol

eraser size is plenty, one click never hurt one either.
Thanks Fellas i appreciate it
Im not going to say that a pencil eraser once a month wont keep worms out of a dog but I recearched it one time and found out that dogs and horses metabolizms are different. It takes a different amount per pound, a 50 lb dog would be about equal to a 500 lb horse. just my opinion.

I squirt a line about 1 and half inches long on my finger then just put it in there mouth,,for tapes it needs to be done 3 days in a row. I use ivomec monthly and do the horse wormer 3 to 4 times a year. If they have tapes you will see them in there stool, and if you don't do it 3 days in a row you will see them in it again in about 2 weeks.

You all need to contact Doc Mitchel a vet in Okla, he will tell you NOT over dose and only once not three days in a row.

Why would you want to use Zimectrin Gold? The active ingredients are ivermectin and praziquantel. The 1% injectable ivermectin is much easier to dose than paste. It is also much cheaper. The praziquantel is only good for tape worms, so you shouldn't need it once a month. If you do, you need to worry about fleas. In my opinion the safest and least expensive way to do this is give ivermectin 1% each month and praziquantel on an as needed basis. In my case, I average one dog every 2 years with tapes. Also, if you give the recommended dose of ivermectin in ZG, you are not getting near enough of the recommended dose of praziquantal
Perry, here are the numbers you wanted.
Here are the numbers on Zimectrin Gold when dosed for the proper amount of praziquantel.
One tube of ZG = 567 mg of praziquantel (see link below). The proper dosage for dogs is 3-3.5mg per pound (see second link below) that means a 50# dog would need 150 mg of praziquantel.
Most folks agree the heartworm preventative dosage of 1% ivermectin solution is 1/10 ml per 10 pounds of body weight. So for a 50# dog that would be .5 ml. Each ml contains 10mg of Ivermectin, therefore .5ml would = 5 mg of ivermectin. Each tube of ZG contains 113.8 mg of ivermectin (see first link posted). So if you give your dog the recommended dose of Praziquantel in the form of ZG you will be giving them over 30 mg of ivermectin which would be 6 times the recommended dose.
I would be concerned about the long term effects.
I ran these numbers a couple of years ago and the FDA links have since moved, so I removed them from the post.

Whoooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeee after going thru those numbers my eyes started to glaze over and my head started hurting but thats what i read too 5 times the heartworm overdose. As far as price I can buy a tube of zemectrin with just the ivomec for 3 dollars a tube
All horse tube/paste wormers are 1.87%Ivermectin,EXCEPT Zimectrin Gold it is like 1.44 % 7.7% Praziquntel(spelling)Lowest doses on the market.
Try Equimax,1.87 % Ivermectin 14.7 % Praziquntel. That is double the amount for Tapeworms
think ima go back to reg ivermec inj. that way i at least know what dosage im giving......my question is what best for tapes given with ivermec? and dosage?

One more question, would the Ivomec dosage be higher for say regular worming, round worms ect. than it would be for heart worm preventative?

Somebody can sure say I'm wrong but I didn't know that Ivomec or Ivermectin was for round worms. I have heard of using it for ear mites and heartworm microfilaria. If someone can say for sure what all it will work for that would be good.
With the money being tight nowdays we all are wanting to do good for our dogs on the dollars we have. I feel bad cutting back on using the vet. We are only getting rabies shots and little else at our vet these days.

quote:So if you were not using Zemectin Gold as a Heartworm Preventative, and say you got a dog or had a dog that had several different kinds of worms and you wanted to use Zermectin Gold just to worm your dog, To be effective you would give 450 to 500 lbs worth of the horse wormer to worm a 50lb dog or would just the 1 click 200 or so do it?

Yes it does require a higher dose for intestinal parasites. the 1/10 cc per 10 pounds is much higher than the amount found in heartguard. I think the 1/10cc per 10 pounds is effective against some intestinal worms, but I've read contradicting info on the subject. I give mine a dose of safeguard once every 4 months to be sure. If I ever see tape worms I give praziquantel. It is available in tablet form under several names such as, Tradewinds and D worm. It is fairly expensive, but I only give it when I see signs of tapes which is not very often as stated before.

Not trying to be smart, but I wouldn't use it. I would get some safeguard goat wormer to take care of it. One click is not enough of the praziquantel, but too much of the ivermectin. If I had some purchased, I would probably just give to someone with a horse. Now if someone is dead set on using paste, you could use the plain Zimectrin (ivermectin) and TapeCare plus which is just praziquantel and dose them seperately.
