Kennel flooring HELP!!!!!!!PLEASE

I have heard so many diff ideas. NEED HELP!!

Heard concrete good for ft heard not!!

Have that it's looking like effecting in bad way my pup.

Put wood floors down with gaps, one male done fine, other was spreading feet out bad to stand on the boards, took him off after about 2-3 wks of this.
Should I stick with wood floors and space them further or closer together????

Don't like the rock idea I've heard, kennel cleaning wouldn't be as good and seems like would be a chore!

ANY AN ALL SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!

lime stone... it sets like concrete but its a little softer and you dont have to clean your kennels as often.

As many opinons on flooring as there is dogfood, I have mine on treated plywood sealed with tompson water sealer going on 3 years now, When i feed I scoop up the poop,

i have an above ground kennel that has wood flooring, the deck boards are spaced out about half an inch, i love mine, easy to keep clean

same at our place.

just put barn brite(LIME) between the boards to help keep any odors down.
haven't noticed any just taking a precaution, we use it in the barns so why not under the kennels........

JUST GOT DONE READING ROUGHLY OVER YOUR POST ON THIS ON ANOTHER WEBSITE. K WAS LEANING TOWARDS THE WOOD FLOORS.

WHAT IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE GAP SPACE?, I HAVE WITNESSED MUCH BETTER CLEANING TASK, BUT DON'T WANT MY HOUNDS STARTING TO STAND FLAT FOOTED.
SO IF I SPACE FURTHER/CLOSER WILL IT MAKE THEM STAND RIGHT?
USUALLY STAND GOOD, BUT THE WOOD FLOOR HAD THEM (ONE HOUND) STANDING ALL SPRAULED OUT WITH HIS FEET.

the way my pen is built, it looked like i was building a deck at deck at first, i havent had any problem withs my hounds bein flat footed, my boards are spaced at an half inch, they dont have to watch where ther steppin and you dont have to worry bout pups breaking legs.

My dogs are on concrete.

I have used concrete for many years, 40 or more, and never had a problem. I have had coon hounds, bird dogs, beagles, curs and feist on concrete with no problems.

I think you will find most kennels have concrete flooring.

I have wood floors in my kennel but put a hard plastic liner down over them. I got the liner a my local landfill. They put it down before the trash goes on. They had scraps laying around that i got for free. Cleans up real easy and dogs are healthy.

some of you are misunderstanding, what I'm trying to get answers for here. I am a vet assistant. My hounds are healthy, I'm just trying to work out tight feet being effected by floor issues. lol

I want to put my hounds on a floor that will help keep there feet tight, they get out daily to run around, just have hounds feet acting diff to diff floors.
One hound stands flat on wood floors, one standing flat on concrete.

Thanks to all for replys though!!!!

think I'm going to go with the wood floors again with about inch or little under gap.

More suggestions are always welcome guys

MY KENNEL HAS CONCRETE FLOOR. DOGS FEET, IF THEY ARE GOOD FEET TO BEGIN WITH THEY STAY GOOD. IF THEY ARE BAD, NOT MUCH HELPS. I HAVE LEARNED SOME DOGS HAVE SHORT TOES AND GOOD FEET, LONGER TOES NOT SO GOOD. THEN PLAIN RIGHT DOWN AND OUT FLAT. HAVE HAD CONCRETE FOR ABOUT 25 YEARS, NO COMPLAINTS.

I will kinda agree, but not all the way.
I've got one hound who had great feet, here past 4 months since been on concrete she is trying go flat looks like. Have a male had for about 8 months he has great feet, when put him on the wood floors he seemed as though the floor was making him want to stand flat footed. I do believe they have it or don't. But just like us humans, you can do things to mess up body parts and functions. Also can do things to improve your small minor problems.

These two hounds have nice feet, just trying to do my part to not mess them up!

Also guys has anyone noticed that Jet bred hounds alot of time seem to be flat footed? Or is it I'm just happening to see all the Jets with flat flat feet?

I used about 3 inches of chrush and run for my kennel floor. Its real fine gravel and then packed it. work real good

K thanks for that info. looks like maybe my young female then just might be showing true side who knows, had good feet at first. My male is only a yr an I've seen a little diff in his feet an it just makes me nervous I guess. But time will tell an I'll just see that I do my part on excercise. which they should be getting all of enough now, but little more never hurts anything.

We have a deck built up with the dog houses on it...similar to a deck on the back of a house with deck boards spaced about 1/4-1/2 inch apart. Under that is dirt with wood mulch on top. We just scoop out the mulch with the crap on it and replace when it gets thin. As for the feet, this type floor is more natural and if they have good feet, will be fine for them. The decking is close enough it doesn't cause problems either. If you space the boards too far apart, that may cause feet issues.

I think you're going to find many different opinions on this subject, but I know in my own personal experience the type of flooring my dogs are on hasn't had much to do with the condition of their feet. The majority of my hounds are on dirt, but the three that are on concrete still have fantastic feet provided their nails are kept trimmed back. A couple of these were raised on concrete before coming to my place. All but one of the young dogs I've raised went through a phase in which their feet were less than desirable....the one that didn't has had great feet since she was a very young pup, but is also a small-made female that doesn't really have enough weight/mass to cause her to "go down" in her feet.

If I remember correctly you said the dogs you're concerned about are males. Are they large dogs? Two of my big males with good feet can appear flat-footed on the ground at any given time, especially if they've been on their feet for awhile. They are generally fine on the bench, unless they get hot and tired-then it can be a struggle to keep them up! I've found it works best for me with these two dogs to keep them off their feet as much as possible the night before an event. Once we're there they're given time to stretch, use the bathroom, etc then crated or put back in the dog box until they enter the ring. Maybe that's something you could try if you're very serious about showing them.

Good luck with your hounds...I'm raising two blue pups right now that have been in a nasty phase with their feet, but I'm trying to be patient and let them grow knowing their genetics make it unlikely they'll have bad feet as adults! I definitely understand your frustration!

thanks for advice, one hound is a male very LARGE male. He is one that seems to be flat one min an not next, so maybe you hit that one on the nose.
Other is a young pup, once again her feet just appear more flat then they used to be, maybe she just needs more growing time.

Mine are all on Grass and about 6 ac. 20+ hounds.

But as far as kennels their is a Product called "Hardi Plank" Panel, it is a Fiber Cement exterior Siding Material and can be found at alot of building supply co.s This Material would last a very Long time !! It would require some Pressure Treated support under it at about 12" oc . Install it with the Back Side Up then it a non slip surface.

Home Depo has it. and its very inexpensive !!

I like slick finished cement. That is what I have allways built but I don't own the olace were I live and he won't sell it so I am useing gravel. It is the easiest thing to clean I ever had. They make a poop fork for hores poop. It picks up the smallest of poop but lets the 3/4 rock go threw. I put cattle pannels under the rock so they can't dig. Mine don't spen much time in the pen though. I let them run the yard most of the time.

if your going to use gravel use pea gravel. works just like a cat liiter box. easy to clean up
