help! ill in the box
i've got a seven month old walker. he just treed his first coon on his own the other night(it got me hyped up as much as he was). but a few nights before that we brought him with some other dogs to a good coon spot. on the way there he was fine in the box. but whenever we loaded him up to head home he got ill on the other dog that has always rode in the same box with him. then we tried putting him in the other box with the other pup, who he plays with all the time. he got ill on her too. i know the other dog he always rides with has peed on him in the box before because i've seen it and smelt it on him. do you think this would be why he got so ill out of nowhere? ill in the box is one thing but if he's ill on the tree i don't know what i'm gonna do with him but it isn't going to be good for him. what should i do with him when he gets like this. i haven't tested him in the same situation since then but what should i do to stop it. he's only a pup so he's still manipulable.
thanks.
i would work his @$$ over ..... at any point he got ill, for any reason. you need to nip it in the butt ASAP or it will only get worse and you will need to go bang bang

Take him and dump him in the pen with a about 12 fox dogs and they will teach him some manners real quick

Light in to him is the best thing I can think of. Never had that problem but anytime my dogs growl at anything other than coon they get it from me. Would you know it my dogs dont do it that much..lol.

Everybodies right about putting some physical therapy on him. My shocking collar ain't worth a toot for range but it will pack a wollop from the stearing wheel to the dogbox. I know i know, some of ya'll say a shocker makes a dog fight harder but that ain't nessasarily so or else cops wouldn't have those tazers. That is no time to be nudging one set on 4. It's time to light him up till you can get the truck stopped and really work him over. Cheap shocker works great for my pet peeve, a dog barking in the dogbox going hunting. Good luck.

At that age he may be agravateing the other dog till it jumps on him and then fights back. That being said DON'T SHOCK HIM. It will just make them fight harder a lot of the time. Not more likley to fight just fight harder while they are allready engaged............
Doesn't matter what is going on by the time you get stoped. Drag him out, throw him on his back and choke the crap out of him till he thinks he is dead or whip him with in a inch of his life. The chokeing works best though. They are helpless in that possission and know you can kill them very easy..........After you choke it down throw it in the box and go again. Repeat till it repents and sees things your way...............

Seriously like, I have heard a lot of coonhunters young and old tell me the best way to knock some sense into a dog is to choke them til they almost or do pass out. Show them who is boss. I think I've done it twice and both times the dogs would cower at my feet and pee on themselves from then on. I HATE a dog that pees on it's self and cowers in fear of me. I want a dog that trusts me and likes me, not terrified of me. I have 1 now that barks in the box on our way to hunting and I ain't sure how to fix it, except yell at her as we go down the road. I don't want her scared of me, but her to respect me as alpha. Our shocker ain't worth a diddly, so I guess we will be investing in a new one. For the problem of the dogs barking at the house, I use the BB gun and pop them with a shot. 1 BB and pumped 5 times and they soon get the message. All I have to do now is shake the gun and all the dogs go in their box, it's kinda nice.

I have about a $ 500.00 shock collar system that will make the big ones cry like a baby and hit both dogs at the same time while they were in a fight. They fought harder............I then beat the crap out of both and never had the problem again.
This guy is talking about a 7 month old pup though. If it is in the box with an older dog it might be hurt pretty bad by the time he gets stoped if it goes to screeming and fighting hard enough to get the older dog really mad..........That age of pup a good chokeing will probubly end the problem...........

Probably so.
Do you have one of those units with two collars and you were lighting both of them up at the same time? Or was one collar on the culprit and both dogs got electrified through the one while they were hooked up? It would seem that once they broke apart for even a second it would take apretty dumb dog that wasn't even the fight starter to want to jump back in there and bite into a ball of electricity? LOL
Hook a rope to his collar (or choke collar) and run it out the side vent into the truck window and pull when he growls. I used to do
this for barking in the box before I had bark collars.

thanks for all the input. the first time he did it on the old dog i ripped him out by the first thing i could grab which ended up bein his ear. i kicked him a few times but it didn't seem to help much since he kept on with the pup in the other box too. i know some of ya'll don't like this but i used the shock collar on him the other night. i had it all the way up and shocked him any time i heard any sort of growl or bark. he stopped after three shocks with it and didn't do it again on the way back home.
i really like some of ya'lls idea to choke him out when he's on his back. one of the first things i do to a dog is normally flip them on there back. if they growl i'll hit em till they're alright with me being over them while they're on their back. its a sign of submission which gives you the alpha role instead of them.
thanks for all the help.
we got a jack russel female who thought she was alfa,,lol
till she got her a mouth full of welding glove that she couldnt spit out,,she forgot shortly after that and got a face full of icewater ,,she dont growl and show her teeth to us but will to people who she sence's are no good,,somehow a dog can tell if a person is just a stranger or a stranger thats got evil in their soul..
she still barks at people she dont know but only shows her teeth at ones she feels that are evil ,like people wearing brown suits like "ups" guys ,she hates them/their trucks with a passion, one of them must have mistreated her bad sometime ..,,
she barks at the fedex guys but her tail wiggles,,
when that little stub tail ain't moveing ,someones in trouble...
