Garmin GPS tracking collars

What does everyone think of the Garmin GPS collars?

Posted by Majestic Tree H on 05-11-2010 07:05 PM:

The only problums I see is that their Range is Limited and If theirs 5 or more hounds in the Area Wearing them their worthless Not enough Different Frequencies .. Where we Bear hunt their maybe 60 or more Hounds Wearing Tracking Collars at anytime on the Mountain so Currently with the Garmin you could be tracking alot more hounds than just your own ..

Just Depends on the Type of Hunting you have and how many other Fokes are using Garmins ..

Garmins Aware of the Problum and I think their will be changes in the Future so I would hold off for awhile before Buying a system . JMO

Garmin Collars

What do you mean you use wildlife collars? Jimmy T

Run two tracking collars, one garmin and one wildlife. I do this for backup as I learn to use the garmin.

Wildlife Materials is a different company, they have been around a long time they use a directional signal .If you are worried about the weight of 2 collars it should be the same as running a shock collar and tracking collar.

we ran garmin collars on 8 dogs this year with no problem and i run the regular tracking collar also but for the sole purpose that everyone else can track my dogs when we have them on a bear. the only thing i use is the garmin. we had the garmin collars on the dogs that r the main dogs in the pack and it helped us out a lot this year. it got a couple bears killed that would have probably got away from us if we hadnt had the garmin and known exactly where they were tryin to cross a road and get into the sanctuary

isnt this the wrong reason for a garmin system?

'it got a couple bears killed that would have probably got away from us if we hadnt had the garmin and known exactly where they were tryin to cross a road and get into the sanctuary',,,,a quote from "HrdStrknKennels"

Road hunting is illegal here in Va. We don't kill very many of them anymore. It's just to much fun running them and I ain't never seen a dead one run.

Posted by HrdStrknKennels on 05-31-2010 03:19 AM:

i didnt say anything about road hunting but around here we bear hunt for MEAT. and any body that bear hunts knows that if u r gonna kill one u do it where ever you can get a chance. here we have to be 50 feet off the road to shoot and if one is trying to get across the road or where ever its running we take advantage of it and put it on the ground.people that say they only kill a bear if it trees dont kill many big bears bc the big ones dont climb trees in these parts. so before anyone goe to bashing much about what i said make sure that you have the story strait.

gps

I like the gps down here on the coast, but I would definitely run two collars anywhere I may leave a dog overnight. Battery life on my collars is less than 24hrs.

I love mine. I was kinda skeptical at first about the battery life but I know where they are so no guessing so I have not had to worry about it. It takes me right into the dogs.
