Banging on tree, shaking vines, clapping hands, etc.

Can you do it or can't you? This question came up last week and a variation of it is on the board again today. And at Walker Days a couple weeks ago, a friend of mine was on a Purina cast (non-hunting judge) and was scratched for shaking a vine with all dogs handled at the tree.
Both Todd and Allen have answered this one before but they obviously need to address it in the Advisor column in the magazine because it keeps coming up and too many are wrongly scratching handlers for it.
What both Todd and Allen have said on this forum is that pecking on the tree, banging on the tree with a rock or stick, shaking vines, all of that stuff is considered in the rules to be the same thing as squalling. You can do all of those things IF all dogs are handled OR the 7 minute mark is reached on the shinetime.
If you need to read it yourself, do a search of "Rule Qeustion". It was posted by "Maniac". The spelling of "Qeustion" is incorrect but that is how you must spell it to find it in your search. That thread is about 3 pages long but it covers the whole issue and both Todd and Allen answered the question.

I can't recall seening a coon after someone banged on the tree, does it really work? I did see somebody pull a vine one time and the coon looked.

Sometimes I see people banging and squalling and banging and squalling to make it look good. lol

In my experience knocking on the tree with a rock or limb works much better than any coon squaller.

Wouldn't say it works better than my squaller, but it does work sometimes when all else fails. That trick works better on coons that have been ran before and are smarter than the average coon. Alos works well in the leafy trees that we have year round down here.

Jim i give, deemed by judge would be the key word
maybe just rewrote.i am sure some are saying 5min
is plenty to get there, some may say if he is 1/2 mile
away who cares,some 7min means just that.maybe
just simple asking before you get there.i have never
been able to shine and beat on a tree at the same
time.
