My Dad
I want to thank everyone of you that has called, emailed, showed up to send your condolences over my father passing. He was a very special man and not only was he my dad but he was my best friend. His passing was not expected but the over whelming support from friends and family have helped us make it through this tough time. Anyone who knew dad knows that his family and hounds were the two most important things in his life. As I write this, I look back at the nights we spent together trying to remember the first night I ever went hunting and the last. My first memories as far back as I can remember have hounds and hunting in them. My dad would take me with him knowing he would have to bring me home after the first drop because I was so little but I would cry if he didn’t take me. I remember him carrying me on his shoulders through the woods because I couldn’t make it or I was to tired. He would always make sure I was happy and our family was taken care of. The last night we spent hunting was up north at Bellars. We had a great hunt and the only regret that dad had was he didn’t have more time to visit with more of his friends up that way. He often said that each time he hunted up there he felt like he was home.
I am very blessed to be a part of the two biggest family’s and that is the coon hunting and law enforcement family. My friends and co workers from both have gone above and beyond. I am very thankful to have each and everyone of you.
The last time I visited with my dad in the hospital I asked everyone in the room to leave so I could talk with him. After they left I knelt beside his bed and my dad and I prayed together. Before I left my dad asked two things of me. He asked me to take care of my mother and his hounds.
I appreciate the effort and support from all of you and the only word I can say is “amazing”. Its hard to continue to do something I love so much without my father. For 34 years of my life I spent with the best hunting partner in the world, my dad. I will continue to follow these hound because thanks to him its not an option or a hobby but a way of life. Thanks dad and I will miss you so much.
A nice tribute to your dad Chris.
He was/is very proud of you.
You are welcome to come back up for a hunt anytime.

Chris that was an awsome tribute to your dad, I read it twice and shed a tear each time. I thought about listning to his storys at the Ace Coon Club and how he made every story funny. Every time he came in from a cast he was laughing weather he won or not. I will miss those times. God bless you and your family in this tuff times my friend and keep them hounds looking up like he told you to. Your friend Jeff....... P.S. Iam going to call one night so we can take them kids out for a hunt. Until then Good luck in all you do.
Chris
Great post and tribute to your dad. He was indeed a very special person. I drew him numerous times and always had a super hunt with him. Hope you keep Fancy in the woods because she is an aweful nice hound. I know it will be hard finding the inspiration to get out there. I lost my dad a year ago Febuary. He hunted with me most every night, usually staying at the truck with a 2 way radio, where he could drive around and pick me up. I catch myself not hitting it nearly much as I used to-just hard to get going. Vannie was a super hard worker at our club-one of the 10 percent that do 90 percent of the work. We are all going to miss him.
