Tyler....pinch those things off at the base and leave the root in the ground. Don't pull them like that. And then after you pick one, tunk the head of it on your finger and spread the spoors back into the area. And only carry them in an onion sack so you can further spread the spoor around. To do it any other way is against the law.

Good find though! It's time!

Did you eat that one on the left? I don't know what that is. It's not a morel though.

I've heard of Hen of the Woods and keep an eye out for them in the fall but haven't found one. They say it's quite a little work to process one? I've heard they are good.

Do any of you find / eat beefsteaks in the spring? Look kinda like that elephant ear but not as tall. I'll take some pics of some this weekend as I'm sure I'll see a bunch. Headin up north to fish, turkey hunt and mushroom hunt. I don't eat beefsteaks but I know people that do. Just curious if you know what they are or if any of you eat them? Might be more of a northern Mich, Minn, or Skonsin variety though.

I found about four dozen so far and it is raining today with more warm weather coming tomorrow. I am hoping they aren't done yet. Took my seven year old with me the other evening. He was sure he was finding them..bits of wood and chunks of whatnot..but then we did find a few. He still is not a mushroom fan but if I can get him to find me some in the future then I will be set when I get old.

Had a couple of meals of them which I brought to work to show off. Morels with brown gravy and garlic served on egg noodles with parmesan cheese...yumm. Then yesterday it was slices of roast pork, garlic with mushroom gravy served on rice. Still, just fried up in some butter with salt and pepper is about as good as it can be. Same with bluegill fillets. Maybe morels and bluegill fried in butter together. What would that cost you if you ordered it in a restaurant? I would guess it would set you back $30 or more.
