Puppy ????????
I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with this one?
I brought home a 7 week old pup, and after the first night she has barked herself hoarse. I know the first couple of days a new pup will whine and bark till it gets use to its new surroundings but I never had one lose its voice before. Is this something I should be concerned about? Will it hurt a pup at this age if it loses its voice, being that she is not fullly developed yet? She is drinking and eating fine so I dont think her throat is sore or anything, she just has a really hoarse sounding yip and bark to her now. Any suggestions or tips would really be appreciated!!!
Cause one thing that I like is a BIG mouth dog on a track.
Thanks,
BlueTick

Call me soft but she misses her mates I'll bet so sleep with her, play with her, reassure her. If she is in box I read somewhere that a hot water bottle and a ticking clock will calm a pup. the clock being similar to a heartbeat.
I've got a 7 week pup with the exact same problem. I think the long haul from AO along with lots a barking the 1st night at his new home took a toll on his voice.
I've been giving him a mix of honey, lemon, and infant Robitussin. This morning he seemed much better!

DO you or a buddy have a pup you can keep with it? It doesnt have to be a hound. It needs something to keep it company. If not try the water bottle or a stuffed toy.If you can stop it now its mouth should be fine. When I get a pup I always get a pair they seem easy to raise and train that way.
I have her in a pen right next to a 5 month old pup. I put one of the kids stuffed teddy bears in the pen with her this morning before I came to work. I think she is doing the usual barking cause I miss my littermates and she just aint used to her new surroundings yet. The 5 month old did the same thing for the first day or so but he never lost his voice like this. My biggest concern is any long term effects on her cause of this?!?! If she is still hoarse tonight I might try the lemon and robitussin to see if that brings it back some. I am hoping that seeing she is this young it wont have any long term effect on her not having a voice.
Thanks for the input and anymore is very welcome!!!
