Put in in the timber. Thats about all it takes. I got a 6 month old bluetick that has never seen a caged coon, and blew the top out of 3 trees saturday night. All they need is timber time if they got it in them. Goodluck with the pup and keep us posted on it.

He's pretty young so you still have a lot of time until you get him in the woods. At this age just give her a lot of attention. Human interaction goes a long ways towards having a good relationship with your dog. Expose her to as much as you can. Walks, other dogs, new sights and smells. You can play games that encourage her to use her nose. With my last pup my kids were hiding pieces of hotdog around the yard and letting him find it. After a while they started making short drags. It became a game (don't overdo it), soon he realized following your nose leads to good things. Teach her some basic obedience, there's no reason hounds have to act like wild animals. Come, sit ,stay, teach her to lead or follow (whichever you prefer). By the time she gets big enough to try to hunt you should have a pretty well balanced dog that is a pleasure to own. Also remember not all dogs turn out, so don't get discouraged. If you have a good relationship with your dog they will try to please you.

clints 100% RIGHT but i found for the most part a pup will tell you when there readdy for a coon id say biggest thing do not force it on a cage coon (seen a buddy ruein one that way was afrade of them forever) ill put it in the middle of the yard in a cage and keep pup on leash and walk around and if shows intrest bring closer if goes nuts un hook and watch ive had a older dog go at a cage coon and let pup watch some times sparks intrest but make sure older dog will let pup in on cage with them
Call Terry Tucker and order some Tucks Coon Scent... Work her with some scent drags until she is old enough for the real thing!

everything you do with her believe it or not ,recognize it or not is training. she will take in everything you do and say eventho she looks like a hyper child right now. her main goal in life will be to please you ultimately. so let her know what she can and cant get away with and pet her up when she does good . it will work out . play with her with a coon tail once a week as a game and around 5 months move it up to two times a week and so on . increase it by intrest and maturity level u will know what that is . this game is all about becoming one with each other and knowing what each other expects of the other .hope this makes sence. good luck and happy hunting

seven weeks old just do the social thing with her, but don't burn her out, if she is bred to hunt it will come to her with age. Don't do to much, one bad experience will set her back for years!
