Coonhunter to Elk horn hunter-

Good friend Steve Norris from Michigan came out to visit last week and we went on a 4-hour quad ride and see what we found on Sunday 4-11-10

Then I went again today with my son-in-law and our butcher and this is what we found in about 3-hours

wow very nice! those thing must bring money cause i was out in wyoming a few years back working and 6 guys got arrested for chasing elk with 4-wheelers trying to make the horns fall off. this was about the time they were shedding horns. big fines and jail time!

Yep-

Big fines & jail for molesting (chasing) them. We wait for them to shed naturaly. the heard around the ranch is about 800-1000 head and our ranch is 48,000 acres so we learn where the bulls hang and thats where we look.

Price for Elk sheds is about $5.00 to $7.00 a pound.

dang that could add up. but it would be fun just to hunt them when they fall off. lol alot easier than finding whitetail sheds i bet!

these guys were somewhere between rock springs and jacksons hole.i was working in rock springs at the time

I find around 25-35 white tail sheds each yr, usually about 15 matched sets and the rest singles.

sheds

My brother lives in Orofino Idaho, he finds sheds alot while working. We hunted elk around elk city Idaho, whitetails on the priest river. Also hunted mulies east of Idaho Falls, really great looking country out there. He told me some of the boy scout troops hunt sheds and sell them to raise money. His neighbor made him a real nice elk horn chandelier for his great room. It is beautifull and huge.

Re: Yep-

Wow, that's a decent price for a few hours riding around picking up some stuff! See any jackrabbits out there?

I live in Lander, WY and I left PA to come to WY to hunt jackrabbits with my greyhounds. So far while out walking around, I have only found one small deer antler with maybe one point and a tiny one starting, and some horn a cow or something similar shed.

I just heard on the news tonight that folks are prohibited from hunting for antler sheds on certain public (BLM and State) lands right now. I didn't catch the whole story I am going to K2 news website to try to read the story or it should be on tonight's news.
