tough hunt last night
i took my two curs out last night. after 7 miles of road hunting they finally struck. it sounded like they were chasing a bear. the race went on and on. a couple of times i started in and they went silent. so i came out. then, since they seemed to be working in one area i started to them so i would be close when they treed. i tried one recently plowed fire ditch and then another to get to them but neithe took me where i need to go. i tried one again. went as far as i could in the fire ditch and struck out throught the burned forest. an hour later i enter a shallow swamp and i could see their flashing collar lights ahead. i finally got to them and there was the coon. the tree was damaged and had a sorry hollow about 15 ft up that the coon could only partly get into. i got a stick and poked him. the coon bite the end of the stick and when i pulled the stick back it hung on. the coon then chose the dog option. big mistake. i thought the coon would fight a little and run back up the tree but it didn't happen. the coon fought to the death. my two curs were in mud up to their bellies. they and the coon looked like animated mud. so it was over and time to leave. some how i got confused and had one heck of time finding my way out. i was two miles from the truck. i was worn out but the time i saw that truck and happy to be on my way. now, as i look back, i feel good about the adventure and the struggle. i'm ready to do it again.

I recently had a night very similar to the one you just described. Addictive, aint it.
By the way, I'm happy that you're happy!
