I went through Infantry Basic down there in January-May of 01. Hope things are going ok for you down there. I am wondering how you were able to get on a computer... do they give you guys internet access now during basic?

Posted by Rip on 04-12-2010 10:56 PM:

I don't think he is in basic any more.

At any rate, thank you for your service to our country. Hope you have a safe deployment.

Infantry goes through basic and AIT all at one time. Most MOS's go through basic and then go to advanced school which is much more relaxed than basic. Infantry is not like that. It is pretty much basic training for the entire time.

Walkerman, what unit are you going to when you leave Sand Hill?

Yeah, but AIT has some more leeway than basic (or at least that's the way I always understood it, never experienced it myself).

I wasn't sure what they were calling it now days but I did think from his origional post that he was through with basic and in advanced training.

It's a "different world" for a grunt. I use the term affectionately. I was an Air Force "grunt." No"9 to 5", your meal is a delicacy in a plastic bag (called an MRE), you sleep on the ground alot (or if you're lucky, in a vehicle, sleep deprivation is a way of life, you camo up so much you know your people when they have their "make-up" on, you shave and bath out of a helmet or canteen cup, taking your boots off feels better than getting a 10 minute power nap, you learn to operate on auto pilot, SALUTE reports and ACE reports dance in your head and METT-T isn't an insurance plan. "Avenues of approach" is a term that doesn't mean how you approach your garage to put your car away and force multipliers are something you might have to beg for.....Walkerman101, God bless you and come home safe.

Matt

Glad you can still make it home for awhile. MSA now has 25 paid members, quite a change in just 5 months. Would like to see your female go while your home, might have to work something out. See you in a couple of weeks...
