OUR SPORT how much time left
How long do you think it will be before you cant hunt hounds in your area? I can see the writing on the wall in my area, every year i loose a couple spots. The economy has been so bad for the farmers that they have sold off most of the road frontage for city transplants to build that dream home and they usually hate hunters. Our days are numbered.

I guess thats why i love arkansas. Not any subdivisions goin up in the riverbottoms thank GOD . But when they start crowdin me out i guess ill just move a little deeper. My nearest big town is about 18 miles east of me and growin to the south so we are doin good for now.

I think in our Area, hunting with hounds has been saved by the Hog Hunters.
There was a time when you were scum if you had a Dog Box in your pickup, but now its alot more acceptabe.

i would say our days are numbered. there are fewer and fewer hunters every year. some dnr are encouraging young people to get into hunting. society has been against hunters ever since walt disney and bambi. now, most teachers are liberals and are biased against hunters. they pass that on to the students. have you ever noticed how brochures of any town will tell about all there is to do in their town, including fishing but almost never will hunting be noted. it's looked down upon as a backward bloodsport. there are a few exceptions. imagine what society will be paying to control all the wildlife populations to control their contacts with people.
i wish we could tell the liberal animal rights activists and the green planet idiots that they can have the moon and make it one big, nearly untouched, pristine interplanetary game and natural preserve.

Just a matter of time 'til the habitat runs out. They can't live off pine trees. Huntin on preserves or pay per hunt...that wiil be it. 10 or 20 years.

I'm lucky here, for now. I've got a 26000 acre state park open to hunting about 5 miles from my house. Probably about 6000-8000 acres is good coon hunting ground. Free to hunt, just have to send in a list of what you took off the ground at the end of the season each year. Of course with the financial crisis that the state of IL is in who knows how long it will be til they have to start charging fees or worse yet selling off state park ground.
But I also have a couple good spots that I and my family own and they aren't going anywhere.
Our town is good about hunting too. In fact kids get out of school for the opening of firearms deer season every year!

Hunting is one of those pleasures that you won't understand if you have to have it explained, which is good because folks who enjoy it can't fully explain why. -Ron Spomer
JEFF ,KIDS GET OUT OF SCHOOL HERE 2 WEEKS FOR DEER SEASON IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER I THINK WE ARE THE ONLY PLACE HERE IN MISSOURI THAT DOES THAT.....HUNTIN IS A WAY OF LIFE HERE IN RIPLEY COUNTY MISSOURI....
I envy you guys that live in an area where youre not thought of as some kind of wierdo because you hunt. I to grew up in a time where the schools were closed for the opening of hunting season. I live in a coonhunters paradice except for all the **** people.

It'll be a long time before I can't actually hunt with hounds where I'm at, but it gets more inconvenient all the time.
Around here, the only coon habitat is along the creeks. Of course that's where the squatters all want to live. So I end up with a 2 mile stretch of creek I can hunt except for the 5 acre "farm" in the middle. The first thing these new land barons do is get a bunch of no hunting signs, a brush hog and a few Havaheart traps. Then they commence to cutting down and killing everything that's natural and then buy a bunch of trees and shrubs and chickens that they have to babysit 24/7 to keep them alive. Then comes the sign, "fresh farm eggs for sale".
I get a kick out of stopping at 11:00 or 12:00 at night or 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning to ask about buying a dozen eggs.
I have predicted that it will end in Florida by 2020. It is getting worse all the time. Tree huggers have invaded our game commision causing all kinds of problems. The divide and conquer works here. They are attacking fox hunters hard now, got bear hunters fifteen years ago. I predicted then that they would get all hound hunting in twenty years. The deer dog hunters wouldnt support the bear hunters then and now they are under attack. We have state controlled areas now that regulate the size hound you can have to run deer. Beagles vs walkers. They can arrest your dog for trespassing now here. Lucklily I live in a county where if you dont hunt you are considered weird. We will be the last hold out in Florida.

The coon will adapt to just about anything but the time will come that you can't hunt with a dog due to houses and roads and new laws. Hopefully it won't be in my time but I think you'll see a time that dogs aren't allowed off a leash or out of a fenched yard.
deer hunting with dogs is just about done here in low country of sc and now its hard to run coon hounds during deer and turkey season because every deer hunter thinks dogs will mess up their hunting
but, even if all hunting is gone, there are other things to enjoy. the change is difficult to accept and discourageing. if we can enjoy hunting coons with all the stuff that goes with it, we can enjoy a lot of different things. or, we can go underground and continue doing what we do and the liberals be ****ed.

The thing that bothers me most is hunter apathy. I have been trying several different approaches to fight in my state. I went down to AO last year to hand out questionaires. I was very disappointed with the outcome while I was down there.
Yes, we will lose our sport someday, but I will be darn if that is an excuse to just let it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Laura, we are all well and i hope you and yours are also. That black dog i had was a worthless cuss, but we had some fun following that old Redbone (Major) of Daves, To this day i think he was the best Redbone iv been to the woods with, not saying much though LOL.
Hunting is good but getting tough to find spots, even the old Irish rd. where you lived probably has 50 houses on it now.
