trophies and plaques at hunts?
do you guys feel that ukc hunts and shows should give out some sort of prize to winners of hunts and show's(whether it is a trophy, plague, framed picture, etc) ?
i have been noticing more and more clubs just giving out win slips. for some people this is just fine and they don't care whether they get anything else or not. but for others and kids especially i think look forward to something they can bring home. i have been noticing lately that the future to our sport is getting pretty scarce and i think this is one of the reasons.
third option is supposed to be no. not "not"....
my incentive is to WIN!....I don't care if I get anything else, as long as I know I won for the night...
and the performance money isn't too bad either..

Trophies are great dust collectors, I always let the club keep mine when my son is not with me. Otherwise he gets it.

know some clubs are having trouble keeping the doors open. we do keep a set in case a kid wins.
if trophy prices make or break a club i think they might need to look a little harder into why there club is not succeeding.
just think of all the sponsors baseball, peewee football basketball teams get. our sport is no different if you try(the key word).
i was at a hunt last last sat/ that only had two officer show up to run the nite hunt and bench show. participation is the key to running a good club, if even the officer wont show up why would people expect hunters to.

ive been to clubs were you win a coon squaller, dog leads, dog food. they use to give a prize to the guide that brought back the highest score so the dog that won the hunt the guide got some thing for puting them in coon. i can use all that stuff - i cant do any thing with a trophy. just my opinion i think it works.

those would be great ideas and great way to get sponsors involved!!!!!
trophies
honest hunters and honest handlers and honest dogs will help more hunters to come to hunts and will help clubs to grow. a win slip would be fine for me. they dont take up space and collect dust.
the cost of hardware hurts if you don't draw enuff dogs to cover the cost..we had a hunt last night and had a full set of plaques..the cost for the plaques was 610 dollars..but drawing 20 for the show and 39 for the hunt justifies the cost..we have alot of new hunters in the area, and having a little momento on the wall for there success really means alot more to them then someone that has an attic full of old trophies..

times are tough for folks & clubs. i remember when i started how proud i was when i won a trophy. i wish our club could afford to give them out but it just cost to much.
Prizes
I think the club should have something. Trophies are cool cuz I never seem to win one but Dog food or collars or stuff like that can make things just as fun for younger folks too! I help run a beagle club here and know first hand on how costly trophies are, and some times the club wont make anything at all on the trial, but we need to give something (collar or leash works perfect) not just a win slip..................Jon

trophies
All I want is those yellow receits
At our events we give t-shirts instead of trophies. We take a picture of dog and owner, print it on a iron on transfer and iron it on a shirt.
With this we never have odd trophies left over and our expense is about $3.00 per shirt and transfer.
After you wear the shirt for a while you can use it to dust the trophies.
Jimmy
I like getting them & I also helps bring up memories of olds dogs you have when they are gone! I still have mine from the first win in a hunt! Plus I think guys feel like they get something for all the money you spend to go to a hunt!

I think clubs need to give something. Our club has went to giving Rosett ribbons for our local hunts. We only fill them out to the hunters and showpeople that want them.
We have one large hunt per year. It is our Texas Battle Royal / Avon West Memorial Hunt, BBCHA Sectional. We give away a fortune in trophies for that hunt. They usually cost over $1,000.00
BBCHA King and Queen of hunt and show (4)
High Scoring Dog (1)
High Scoring Dual Champion (1)
High Scoring Dog of each breed (7)
UKC Grand Ch, Nite Ch, and First Place thru Fifth (7)
Overall Show Winner (1)
Dual Champion Show winner (1)
Overall Show Champion of each breed (7)
UKC Best of Breed Male and Female (14)
Best of Show Male and Female (2)
Champion Male and Female (2)
Grand Champion Male and Female (2)
We usually have entries to pay for all the trophies. But we don't make much if anything. We are able to compensate by having a hugh raffle, live auction, silent auction, and a gun raffle. Our members bring small items and bake goods for the raffle. We get donations for the auction items. We really have to work hard to get the large items and a gun donated.

Around here they all give trophies/plaques unless its a Poor Boy Hunt. Then they knock a few bucks off the entry fee and keep their trophies.
Your suppose to have a full set of trophies Gr Nt Ch, Nt Ch and 1st through 10th. How many hunts these days have 10 cast or a Gr Nt Ch cast? All you'd have to do after each hunt is order replacement trophies for the ones you gave out.

Trophies, Plaqes
I think for a U.K.C. the club is suppost to have Trophies, or Plaqes, unless it is a por boy hunt. Then the entry fee is less, this is suppost decided by club before sending in the Hunt papper work,so that way it is in the Hunt advertisement in the Bloodlines. That way you know what you might win.Hunters at our club sometimes donates the plaqe back to club and members have donated old plaqes back to the club. Then all the club has to do is change the plate on the front. This has really helped our club exspenses. (Tired of the dust on your plaqes find a club and RECYCLE them.)
