Ivomec For Ears?

What does the Ivomec do for ears?

I've been down the liquid road with Mearicle, seemed to help but didn't cure it.

Took him to the vet and she said they looked "pretty good" but said he "probably" had a inner ear infection, 10 days worth of Keflex fixed it, but about 3 weeks later its back.

I gave him 1,000MG's of Amoxacillan powdered for 7 days and that didn't seem to help

I've been putting 1CC of Ivomec in them at the advice of several buddies, for the last 2 days, but I'm curious as to whether this will really fix the problem?

My guess is he has a food allergy. You will have this problem untill you find out the cause of the problem.

I've changed food from BG to Pride and that hasn't affected it.

It won't change anything if they both have a common ingredient that is causing the infection. So don't count out the food allergy.

As mentioned ivomec kills earmites. also 1cc in each ear is just waisting alot of ivomec. 4-5 drops per ear would suffice.
The food allergies are a good point. you'll will have to read a lot of labels and try diff foods. this may take a month or more on each food to get results.
Don't I repeat don't put any water based products down your dogs ears it will only create more problems. do a search on here for the purple ear cleaner. its cheap and very effective on a broad spectrum of ear problems.

Posted by Bluedogman on 03-16-2010 12:29 PM:

When needed, I use an ear cleaning foam called OtiFoam to clean the ears every day for about a week and after cleaning put a little of a product called Malotic (in a tube) in the ears each day. This is to treat yeast infections I believe. You know how to massage the ear to work it in I'm sure. I only do this for a few days... a week maybe. . These products come from a vet. I haven't seen many of the miracle home mixtures that actually do much. I don't use ivomec for anything other than heartworm prevention but I have heard that the monthly treatment for that will take care of ear mites as well. I don't think hound ear problems are always mites.

dogs can be allergy tested as well. its a blood test. that's how I found a mold, canola oil and peanut allergy.

If it is a food allergy then antibiotics will not help. The fact the dog got better on antibiotics suggest it is an inner ear infection or internal sinus infection. Trust me, I have been there. The problem is if you don't whip it the problem can become chronic. Each time you give antibiotics and it returns makes it all that much harder to cure.

The antibiotics are specific for particular types of bacteria. No one single antibiotic is effective on all bacteria. The best antibiotic we used on my male was batryil. (I am not sure about that spelling.) It solved the problem for 1 month and then it returned. I ended up having to retire my dog from hunting. I even took him to Michigan State and they considered doing surgery into his skull. Once I stated that I had a money limit for dogs they changed their minds.

Good luck with your dog.

Baytril is about the strongest antibiotic you can get. If baytril won't lick it, you'd be hard pressed to find something that will. I'd pay good money to keep a cycle of that on hand at all times.

LYSTERINE MOUTH WASH, IT IS A CHEEP ANTICYPTIC THAT WORKS WOUNDERS, HEALS ALL KINDS OF STUFF.1 or 2 cc in each ear and massage, hold ear up so it stays in, try it youll like it.

Don't know if it is a food allergy or not but if it is try a food without any CORN in it. Corn is the number one reason for food allergies in dogs.

Here is recipe for a treatment to clean and dry up dogs ears. You have to follow the directions closely or it will not work the way it is supposed to. Has saved me a lot of vet bills since it was passed on to me.

This is a recipe for a sure fire remedy for a dog who is shaking his head because of his ears.

The main thing jeff you have to do it the way it says or it wont work..If your dogs ears are really sore use witch hazel instead of alcohol..you need ..16oz btl of 99% alcohol...#2..1 btl of gentian violet[pharmacy will have all this stuff}#3..1 btl of boric acid powder...OPEN THE ALCOHOL AND PUT 18 DROPS OF GENTIAN VIOLET IN THE ALCOHOL OR WITCH HAZEL..18 DRPS ONLY.. THEN MIX IN 4 TBLSP OF BORIC ACID POWDER SHAKE WELL BEFORE EVERY USE...NOW..2X PERDAY FOR 2 WKS..3RD WK I TIMES PER DAY..after for maintainence..1xper wk..This stuff really works jeff but do it out side it will stain..All the best ..Good L UCK..Jim

Listerine, no need to mix anything, it is an antiseptic, good enough to put in your mouth it sure not going to hurt your dog.

Posted by GA DAWG on 03-17-2010 05:27 PM:

First thing I'd do is bring him to north ga and go see my vet..Best vet in the state,PERIOD! It sounds like to me its infection and what they gave is not fixing it..Its gonna keep getting worse and worse and worse...Gotta buddy with one now..Dog got so bad it lost his eye!!!!!!!! You gotta stay on top of the ears of an infection proned hound to..Clean the twice a month when you finally get them better..

You are right GA Dawg. Especially if the infection is in the internal ear. All of the remedies mentioned will not help an inner ear infection.
