When is a good time???
So i posted something about 3 weeks ago about my bluetick traking silent. She a pup almost 4 months. I had several pepole respond saying that it was to soon. I should just keep walking her in the woods and teaching "dog basics" heal, sit, come, no etc... I have been, and she's doing very well. But when is a good time to start runing drags and chasing caged coons. Also what can i do about the silent track. She is vocal in the house and when we play with her but not during "training"???
I've only had one pup in over 20 years ever bark on track
on a drag but they all did in the woods on coon tracks when they
got started later on. As far as showing them a cage coon I
really don't like showing them one until 6 or 7 months at the
youngest, maybe older depending on the on the pup. The
younger they are the better chance of the coon scaring them
and possibly ruining them. I might let them see one with other dogs when they are younger from a distance at first. I did have
a litter about 9 weeks old that were running loose years ago
find a cage coon I had by the woods and they were all going
nuts at it. You don't need to be in a big hurry, 8 months is plenty
young enough to start them if your not experienced at starting
pups.
