COMMON HERE

It was a common thing to hear of that kind of cross in the mts. of VA. where I live. I was a teenager in the 80s so I remember the old grade dog casts that used to be popular in the nite hunts[ not everybody had ukc reg. dogs back then], and this was a favorite cross, people bred what worked. Anyway 2 of the best hounds I ever walked behind were black & tan and walker crosses. You really get the best of both worlds, the nose and brains of the black & tan and the go power and speed of the walker, and this cross comes out with some beautiful colors. If you pleasure hunt it is hard to to beat this cross, I dont see the grade dog casts of the past coming back [ unless they start a hybrid registry in ukc ] so the pups of these crosses would be hard to find homes for ,especially hard to get a die hard nite hunter to try one [ but boys remember Bellars Lil Red , she got people to thinkin, redbone & walker cross ] but sometimes these crosses really work. If you decide to try it you might decide you like it. I hunt leopards now because there is no color code [breed good dog to good dog ] and you never know I might do some hybrid research in the future.

What colors are common in this cross?

Posted by VA.REB on 03-10-2010 11:45 PM:

COLORS

Some come out black & tan bodys with red and white walker heads, some look like black & tans with white feet and chests, some look like reg. blanket back walker dogs, and some look like reg. black & tans a very little white on their chest. I am sure that there are other varietys of colors, but that is what I can think of [ at least those are the colors that I have seen] they make good lookin hounds. Remember its not the color of the dog that trees the coon, ITS THE COON DOG ITSELF!!!

IT WORKS

I am tickeled its workin for you. These type of crosses do work if you breed quality to quality. I think this is the way to get any hound to perform well ,regardless of color.

the best dog i ever

sean cut loose in ALL MY LIFE WAS half walker and half black and tan .she was made like a walker but looked like a reg. black dog in coller the dam was walker the sire was a blank and tan .i trained her and if she struck 100 times she would show you at least 99 trees with the coon in it.a coon could not get away from her even if it went over a 100 foot high cliff she would get under some how and keep at it till it was treed that dog learnt me WAT A TRUE COON DOG WAS and that is why i say a coon dog is verry rare to find or train.dogs like that are a once in a life time if you are VERRY LUCKEY to see one in a life time .maney people think they have sean a coon dog TILL THE NIGHT COMES THEY DO GET TO SEE ONE.i would give every thing i owen to have one just like sandy was becauls they are money in the hunts to be made with a dog like her.yes i did make a lot of cash with her BY BEATING SHE COULD BEAT THESE SO CALLED COON DOGS AND SHE WAS NOT EVER BEAT IN THE WOOD.she beat world champions like a drum and plenty well knowen dogs when she was alive .she never lost a cast in pleasure or in a comp hunt for CASH in her life.boy how i would like to owen just one more like her, david boggs..ps i turned dowen 25,000.00 cash for her in 1982 and was ask to price her but never did but when she got old i gave her to a good home and she was still the best dog aney person sean till the day she dyed and ralph stanley that lives in virgina the famous band and singer handed me a check told me to fill it out but i just let them hunt her she dyed while they was on ture in germaney /COON DOGS A RARE
