I'm sorry you misunderstood me Bruce. I live in North Ga. not South Ga. Also, my best dog as of right now is a 16 month old out of Bullet 2. He is a long way from what you'd call a seasoned coon dog but he is coming along and learning good. Where you live???

Posted by Bruce Conkey on 11-05-2004 06:22 AM:

I live in N. Fl and my dog power here isn't the best either.

Hey Sheep

How far you live from Sand Mountain.

Jim Wigley

If I'm not mistaken sand mountain is in Alabama not far from the Ga. line. I used to cross it all the time when we'd go visit my Granny in Guntersville. I think I'm maybe an hour or an hour and a half from it. Just guessing.

in "Barney"????? wow!!!!!! He's 3rd string right now. My starting dog is my little Bullet 2 puppy. I drove all the way out to Arkansas and met Lee Smith and got when he was 6 weeks old. He shut Barney out on strike and tree 3 nights ago and had the coon and shut my female (Princess) out on strike and tree last night and had the coon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's getting better and better. She (princess) was off bugger barking at some junk on the second drop last night and he didnt care nothing about it. She only done it a minute or two but he never opened with her. He is trainable too. I can whup him for not hunting and he gets the picture and he's learning to hunt deeper and longer for me. THis is a very sought after trait in blueticks. Most blueticks I ever owned if you switched em then they just sulled up like a possom the rest of the night and wouldnt do NOTHING. Yeah, I'm proud of that little puppy. He's only 16 months old and he's out doing both my others!!!!!!!! We aint got many coons down here and if you find one down here even if you got a feeder bucket most of the time you gotta HUNT FOR ONE. Theres not one in every tree either like yall got up there. I cant go out in a field or pasture and shine the tree line and see coons. You do it long enough and shine enough and you might see one every now and then but for the most part coons are thin here even if you got feeders. And the deer and fox and coyotes and amradillos and possoms are PLENTIFULL!!!!!!!!!!! Down here iT aint a matter of whose gonna be the fastest on the coon track.......... its a matter of whose gonna by-pass the JUNK and get deep and HAVE THE COON IN THERE TREE!!!!!

Sheep , how does the dog know he got whipped for not hunting ?

Posted by sheepster on 11-05-2004 02:00 PM:

good question dirtdevil. He knows that if he dont hear me call him he dang well better be outta sight!!!!!!!!!!! So here lately his coontreeing has gotten MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! I guess he figures sinse he cant hang around me or the truck he better get in there and do something and he sure has been DOING THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!!!! I only had to switch him maybe twice. He learned right off. THe other good part to this is if I CALL HIM ............. he comes!!!!!!!!!!! Very trainable little dog. I've never had one that went hunting good but if I called them they would come. I guess that just goes to show if you keep doing what you allways done you'll probably get what you allways got but if you change things up and put forth some effort you may get something better!!!!!!!!

sand mountain

sand mountain is in both ga and ala.i`m from dade county which is the ga side of it.

Posted by sheepster on 11-05-2004 06:09 PM:

what cities are close to sand Mt. ?? I think we used to cross it to when we used to go to the Collinsville flea market.

Posted by petedawg on 11-05-2004 06:21 PM:

whats close

collinsville is off in the valley...you must have crossed lookout mtn as collinville is in between sand and lookout.boaz, ala is at the end of sand mountain and guntersville is off the backside.also fort payne is above collinsville heading up 59 which will take you through dade county and on into chattanooga,tn.

Posted by sheepster on 11-05-2004 06:28 PM:

My dad grew up in Guntersville. Its where my granny lived until she died. Shes buried there. My dad used to fish at lake Guntersville with his dad when my dad was a kid. Alabama for the most part isnt growed up like Ga. has. North Ga. aint nothing but one great big, rich subdivision. Alabama hasnt changed as much. I was borned in Florence.

Posted by petedawg on 11-05-2004 10:11 PM:

subdivision?

up on sand i dont see it as a great big subdivision, but those crowding bastards from chattanooga and atlanta sure are moving up there in the droves.seems they cant stand the crime and all that crap,so they come out to the rural areas and screwup all of the hunting.i wish they would all die or atleast move up north and sell me there land cheap(:

Posted by petedawg on 11-05-2004 10:15 PM:

hey sheep

i`m gonna be in on leave the 15th through the 30th.i may just have to come over there and see what ya got to hunt or i`ll bring ya to the house and will hunt the bottoms in alabama by the tenn river.

Hey Sheepster, you have any pics you can post of your Bullet II male? I had a littermate to yours..a female. She was doin real well, nice little gyp.. Smart as a fox too! Would like to see what he looks like. My little gyp was build 'bout as good as you could ask for.

Posted by sheepster on 11-05-2004 10:55 PM:

sounds like a good idea petedawg!!!!!!!!!!!! DRP, I dont have any pictures of him yet. Maybe I'll get some soon. Then I gotta figure out how to get them on this message board . My wife bought us a phone with a camera on it. She has figured out how to take a picture with it and send it to our E-mail. Now all we gotta do is get a picture of my dog and then figure out how to get it from our E-mail to this message board!!!!! Mom has a scanner. Maybe that would be easier?? who knows??? any suggestions would be appreciated. My little male is very small. He is light blue and his face looks like Bullet. He has a wonderfull temperment and very trainable. He aint so sensitive that a switch makes him pount but he is sensitive enough that he LEARNS. Gotta go........ were going again tonight!!!!!!!!!
