Attention: Kentucky Houndsman Association
I got a call stating that there was a bill in KY state legislation trying to eliminate a dog being on a chain for more than 24 hours. Please have someone verify this. The humane society is at it again.

Penny,
Who is in charge of investigating these bills?

Please contact your local representative.

Please look.
The bill that the Houndsmen are talking about are HB 169 sponsored by Rep Joanie Jenkins of Louisville and HB 225 sponsored by Rep. Ron Crimm of Louisville. Both of these are being held in the House Judiciary Committee. It is critical that the Houndsmen contact their state representatives and tell them to defeat these bills. 800-372-7181 or 502-564-8100. Tell them to ONLY call the person that represents the district where they live. Also, we need folks in the Hopkinsville/Christian County area to contact Rep. John Tilley who chairs the Judiciary Committee and ask him to not hold a hearing on those bills.
Your folks should also look at HB 429 sponsored by Rep. Bob Damron of Nicholasville and SB 64 sponsored by Senator Gary Tapp of Shelbyville. These bill dramatically reigns in the abuses of the Dept of Fish and Wildlife. This is a big fight and anyone that has been affected needs to pick up the phone NOW.
These bills can be viewed at www.lrc.ky.gov

Thanks Mike for the info.
Also there is currently HB 517 that gives powers to agents of the humane society to seize animals with reasonable cause. The humane society is NOT a government agency and should not have these powers....
Contact your legislators, 1-800-372-7181 is the toll free number leave them a message that you oppose these bills.
We need to create a phone tree - contact 5 people you know that have hounds or hunt small game and ask them to contact 5.

This is a very important time, if these bills are passed it will be very hard to every get them changed.

HB 429
Mike
I am reviewing HB429 which has several items that allow for things that hunters need. I am awaiting some calls on the entire details. Unless there are some unposted amendments the 24 hour leash statute is not part of any bills at the moment. But HB 517 could allow that the humane society make their own decisions about what cruelty would be and hold an animal.

house bill
Our lobbyist caught wind of it. Maybe it was only in discussion. It must have been the bill that gave the humane soceity authority.
I know that they always have a hidden agenda.

Legislation
It appears that HB517 is the real threat. This bill could give authority to the humane society to make their own determination of cruelty threat and ability to sieze animals. This is not just dogs and cats but any domestic animal. Communicate with all farmers and horse owners you know. This has to go....
As for HB429 the changes to Fish and Wildlife statutes. The ability to carry a weapon and use for protection against animal attack while legally hunting is part of this along with some other good aspects about public lands open to hunting, which allows for the replacement of acreage if some is closed to hunting and fishing.
The other two bills are primarily for fighting of animals but will need to be monitored for amendments.
