How to stop barking dog?

I have a female that keeps barking all the time. I put a bark collar on her and she stopped immediately. I left it on her for a month slowly loosened it till I took it off her. She was good for 3 weeks started barking again. I put the collar back on and now she barks and figured out that she can with stand the pain and keeps barking. The only way she shuts up is if I go and hold her mouth shut and that will last for about 1 hour and back at it again. Any suggestions would be great.

Shock collar much much more powerful than a bark collar

I use shock collar a lot when I am home but I work full time and she starts about 11 AM and doesn't shut till I get home around 5 PM according to the neighbors.

Try to shield her from any distractions that may cause her to bark. Having a kennel located in the right spot is key. A fence or kennel wrap might help her from barking at passerbys or whatever activity is peaking her interest. Wrapping a kennel in landscape fabric might be a cheap temporary solution.

You've already tried e-collars and bark collars. So not sure what else you can do.

I know what I'd do but the ground is too frozen for digging in MN right now.

As far as I'm concerned anything willing to bark through a good bark collar consistently isn't worth feeding.

You need....

A strong hand, good long powerful hose, and absolutely no giving in!

If you can outlast her, whether it be 430am or 630pm you can cure her.

Get a good start on the weekend and take a few days off of work.

I've had a couple here that were "incurable" and sometimes it took 2 solid weeks, but in the end, it worked.

You've gotta pick a plan and stick to it until the dog can't take it anymore.

It's more of a "dominant one of the bunch" more than anything.

Make her realize she's gotta listen to you no matter what!

I had bark collars once for when I wasn't home. Found it best to use a e-collar and train them to not bark if there isn't something out there and to shut up after it leaves or when I tell them to. I live in town with close neighbors and people comeing and going all the time. Let bark till you think they should shut up, tell them then shock them. If they start again don't say a word just shock. Shock should get a yelp. Doesn't need to be long but needs to be hot. So far I have not found a dog it doesn't work on. I have had lots of breeds and temperments. Longer it take to get them in the habbit the hotter and longer the elec.

I have seen some no-bark collars advertised as having as much strength as you need. How much that is -- I do not know. Some have on/off switches. I think you can get a dummy collar for the ones that get wise to having the collar on. I don't know if they can learn to tell the difference in the real thing and a dummy but some dogs are very smart and it's hard to figure out how to deal with them with any kind of electronic collar. I wouldn't think a water hose or anything else would work on one that ignored a bark collar that was working right.

Agree with toe cutter, the dogtra ys 500 is the only one made that stands out from the crowd.

Also, some hounds are too smart to be contained, or too stupid to figure out what the handler wants????

Could also be the feed? That hi std is some powerful stuff, I hear.

If you have good neighbors who are telling you the straight story then I would do whatever it takes to keep it from continuing. Is there any options for keeping this barker in a garage while you are not there? I know that the idea for a water hose just won't work with the temps. right now. Maybe one of your neighbors would help you out if they are there during the time you work and IF you could trust them to correct your dog with a training collar controller. You would have to really know and trust that neighbor.

Or you set up a day that you leave but don't go more than a block or two away and you use the training controller to correct the barking. You would be able to do it from your vehicle with a window down to listen. Just an idea. You have to convince this dog that No Barking is the rule no matter where you are.

Barking is associated with the will of the master to stop it. The tri tronics bark collar will work well, if, when the dog barks and it is getting shocked you hollar for it to shut up. if it doesn't, a piece of garden hose pipe and a session in the kennel, bark collar attached and a strong will to make it listen, it will soon understand that barking is not tolerated. if that doesn't work, make it somebody elses problem.

as soon she opens her mouth knock the hell out of that dog with a stick, does it again spray her with cold water , does it again (shock,hit,spray,) does it again turn her loose and let her run all night. eventualy she will ware down trust me. had one like that

Thanks for the info guys on this. I put the bark and the shock on her tonight and left her have the high voltage and it has been about 2 hours now and have not heard a peep. I will see if this works. Thanks again.

I think that why she barks so much he has so much energy from the Hi-Standard dog food that she could hunt 24 hours 7 days a week and not be tired so she has to find other ways to use up the energy.

It will drop her like a bad habit.
I had one awhile back that was stupid about barkingI started with the collar on her but didnt use it for 2 days , then I powered it up , stayed in the house and when she started barking I turned it to 2 , nothing, 3 nothing , 4 got her attention , but still barked , so I went straight to 6 , that did the trick , It put her on the ground , I think she did bark once since then , but it wasnt very many times , she got the hint

never in my life have i seen so many , so quick to take the easy way out. by all means lets all just start whippin the hell out of our dogs for every bad thing they do .53 years i've been working dogs , and can't remember ever whipping one. i do however use an e collar, but most importantly,i spend alot of time teaching my pups to be dogs .if you don't want a dog to joy bark, you get better results when they're 3 months old then 3 years old. training starts at weaning . being a good trainer is alot of responsibility, not everyone is cut out for it .let me pose a question ?if you had a child in 1'st grade , an that child was having a problem learning , would you be ok with the teacher just beating the hell out of him or her , for every little mistake, or would it be a little better if that teacher showed a little restraint, and actually taught the child.

Robert that is a great post!!!! She started when she about 5 months old and I did not know that she was even barking until one day the neighbor called me at work and she has been barking every day for 3 weeks. That was about the same time I had to put down my old female that was kennel right beside her. The bark collar seems to be working but she is not smart enough to shut and the collar turns off. She keeps barking and keeps getting shocked. I am working with the shock collar now to stop from doing that. Thanks for your great post Tom

it's starting to make more sense to me now . with your other dog being gone all a sudden , your young dog is going thu separation problems. i don't know what your situation is ,but sounds to me like she just needs a little company.maybe you been thinking of getting a pup trainer . if so, don't put it off to much longer , maybe you have a freind that can keep your pup until you start to work it . starting to work it might be the answer too . that will take away some of her boredom. spare the rod , save a tree.
