5 month old puppy broke front leg
We had one of our walker puppies running last night and broke its front leg right at the wrist joint maybe a little above it, anyone have any experiance in this?
Buddy of mine ran over his pup at about that age and broke both front legs. Vet wrapped them and they kept him inside 6 weeks till they healed. One is really crooked, the other looks normal. The dog ended up being a decent meat hound. But I bet arthritis will ruin him around midlife.
Very expensive to have fixed had one coon dog break his front leg right at the joint surgury cost $1,000 hes 10 years lod now and seems to be doing fine on it. Also just expereinced this with the house dog she broke hers just above the joint cost $900 to have fixed. Good luck.

It's worth a trip to the vet and an xray. A break at the wrist in a growing puppy can do damage to the growth plate, and the vet can look at it and tell you for sure. If the growth plate is OK, and the bones are in place, AND you can care for it properly at home, have the vet put a soft cast on it, showing you how to do it, and bring home some extra supplies for when you have to change it. You will need to keep the pup crated or on lead for at least 4 weeks, and make sure he can't chew the cast off.
If you can't keep a real close eye on him and restrict him, then the vet is going to want to plate it, which is easier to care for at home, but much more expensive.
So, to get him through it, it will either cost you time or money.

I had a pup break his front leg at 6 weeks old.. They put a soft cast on him and changed it every 4 to 6 days.. My vet just charged me for the original office visit, xrays then for the material when it was changed. It really didn't turn out to be much and it was well worth it.. He turns 4 in a couple months and you would never know it had been broken..
