Taking a Preganant Females Temp???

Guys I had a 3 year old female beagle that has had litters in the past, that had her pups without me noticing her temperature dropping. I had been checking her for about a week, and her temperature was aroung 101.2 to 101.5. The night before she had pups, i checked her at 5:30 and the temp was 101.2. The next morning at 7:30 she had all 6 pups. This is the first one i ever keeped up with the temp on but it did not work for me. Is it common for some dogs to have there temp drop that fast?

I was alwys told the temp will drop two degrees sometime during the last 24 hrs before whelping.
