bacterial infection
I had a female that got a bacterial infection on her vocal chords. It ended up scarring her vocal chords and she never did get her voice back completely. It went untreated cause we didn't know of the infection. So with that being said, I would treat him/her with an antibiotic.
if the dog has barked itself out, prednizone should take care of it, its an anti-inflammatory steroid...but it only helps if it has been just a short term problem, if a dog has barked and barked and barked over a long period of time, and lost their mouth, there might be nothing you can do, if scar tissue has built up on their trachea...
