Autumn Oaks Scores

I have read the posted Autumn Oak scores and talked to some of the folks that were there. Most of the scores seem entirely creditable but I wonder if some of the +1700 points scores were with 4 signed witnesses on a random draw that hunted the entire time or just 2 cast members? I can respect a scorecard signed by 4 witnesses that hunted the entire time but I personally would have to question any high score like that with just 2 guys and a scorecard. Will the winner's scorecard be published in Coonhound Bloodlines?

Retick, whats your deal, you don't participate so why do you care? One cast had over 1700, give it a break, get in your rockin chair and close your eye's and rest easy ole man, pretend you and "Jackhammer" are on a real coonhunt and your winnin. Can you beleive that?

Ray, I am sure I spend more time in the woods than you do. I don't have to dream about anything, all I have to do is put the tape in the VCR and there it is on big screen TV and surround sound. I spend too much time in the woods taping my dogs but I sure enjoy the time I spend editing and titling the tapes I have made. I probably should be doing that on my computer rather than reading any of your messages. I personally believe someone could be sitting in a truck filling out these scorecards, putting their dream on a scorecard and calling it the truth. Do you ever think something like that could ever happen? Let's face it, it was August 30-31, finding coon in the trees is not that easy this time of the year if the dogs indeed made that many trees in 2 hours. Of couse, Ray, I hunt in August, you may not.

Didn't see you at draw out time friday or saturday retic, did you hunt? I did and didn't do any good, but I still wouldn't question someone that may have a coondog and did well, your a very jealous misreable old hootie.

1st strike and 1st tree on 8 coon in eight trees. not where I hunt and no minus points in two hours. I for sure would like to be hunting in a place like that if there is one

I hate to jump in a gun fight with a knife.....but Redlick, you have got to be crazy!

Mr. Elwood Simmons took me out Thursday night of last week for the first night of coon hunting for me in 10 years....and I have never trialed coondogs. I thought he was bringing a pack of coonhounds and he showed up with 1 dog...a pretty female. He loaned me a light and together we bound off thru the woods with that dog on the leash. Now I must be honest, I didnt expect a bunch of action, I had been out driving around an hour before and seen no coons moving....so I figured it was gonna be tough especially with 1 dog.

Mr. Elwood got me back to a spot where he said we will cut loose and see what happens. I bet the dog wasnt hunting 2-3 minutes and away she went...it wasnt long and Elwood said she was treed....we went over and after just a few minutes of searching we found the coon...high in the tree! We were both happy to see the coon but I think Elwood was especially happy I got to see the coon. 10 minutes into this thing we had a coon treed and seen.

We went ahead and walked about 10 minutes farther back and cut her loose again.......within 5 minutes she hit and we thought she was going back to the other tree....but she continued around and treed again......up the hollar from the first coon. This coon was easy to see and we both seen it several times.

We then moved about 10 minutes the other way and cut loose to run the back side that hadnt been run yet, same thing happened again. I was amazed at how easily this dog was able to find a coon and get it treed. All in all we were out for about 1 -1 1/2 hours total and the dog treed 3-4 coons we saw all of them. Maybe its that Cajun light......heck I dont know! But we seen coons easy despite all the thick cover.

How many trees would you need in 2 hours to get that kinda score?

Back 20 years ago when my dad raised coonhounds and I ran with him a coon hide was worth $30-$45 and coons were hard to come by, seems like its a lot more fun today. I can see how a guy could score a lot with the number of coons there is today.

1 coon every 10 minutes

you have to stay treed 5 minutes so 1 coon scored every 15 minutes on a 1st and 1st you could get a 1750+ score

My buddy hunted Sat night NT Champ cast, went 40 miles southof Richmond and did not score on any coon. He said they didnt even see any layups.

We went to Greencastle on friday night NtCh cast, no coon seen in 2 hours of hunting, but at the PKC SS earlier this year my female won two cast out of Greencastle. However as I stated before that doesn't mean that someone else didn't tree a coon in the area or state. The coon didn't seem to be moving early, I think the later you hunted the better you did, in coonhunting as in everything there are cheats, but unless you can prove it or know for sure you better leave it alone.

Congratulations to those that did get put into coon and did well.

We are having a Zone hunt close by here in two weeks and I will try to put anyone that I guide and judge into as many coon as possible as I feel satisfaction in bringing back a good big score and lots of good fun and fellowship for my casts. Show me your coon and I'll sure plus it, no coon circle or minus.

Well, I dont know about where they hunted...

But the last 9 cast that we have guided, we have LOOKED at at least 5-8 coons and on average SCORED about 3 of them.

Saturday night, when Hank won 1st, we hit the same spots as usual, same times and everything, we LOOKED at 3 and SCORED 1. We were the only registerd dogs to even strike a coon. The NTCH winner came back with over 500+, but I dont know how many coons they saw and scored.

It was a bad night around here, alot of unstable atmosphere I think chased the coons to moving a little before dark to avoid all the storms.

Anyone think that there could of been a 2 or 3 dog cast?? If they packed up and one dog got 1st and 1st on them all the score would be legit. I can't cut down someone who gets a good score like that. I was not there I did'nt make it to AO so you know what. If you were'nt there on the cast or even at AO you have no say. I'd give someone the benefit of the doubt. Not run them down by scenerios that could've been this and could've been that.
Before you open your trap have the facts.....

he dangled that bait out there for ya'll and ya hit like a bunch of fall stripers.
Dave you cant possible think that after every major hunt that brings in a top score that brining it up here is going to change it or future scores do you.
As TK and others have said the best way to keep a cast honest is to stay with the cast the whole hunt.
And if this cast had indeed stayed together the whole hunt will you find this score belivable?

You know I am flat amazed with the caliber of dogs Redtick claims to have and all the knowledge he claims to have.Why havent we ever seen him and one of those super dogs in the winners circle at a major hunt?Anyone besides Redtick got the answer to that one?I have one , bet most of you can guess what it is.

OK, I do need to clear one thing up for my fellow Southern hunters. Yes, if a score of 1700 EVER came back in at my home club is Spencer Tennessee it would be LAUGHED out of the clubhouse. Heck it isn't unusual for the high scoring dog of the hunt to have 25 plus.

That said I have hunted up north where these hunts are held. I hunted at Wapakonetta Ohio at Black and Tan days. We saw SEVENTEEN COONS walking to FIVE TREES (One in all trees except one circle tree and THIRTEEN just settin up). Now I have never seen that many coons in my LIFE, but they were there. It wouldn't be hard to score 1700 there especially if it was a two dog cast and they stuck together (you don't have to wait the five). Many places up there have coons thicker than squirrells in our parks. If they drew out to a good spot up there you BETTER BELIEVE THAT SCORE IS POSSIBLE. I for one have no reason to doubt it. Heck it might happen to me one night. I know that particular night our cast winner got high scoring dog of the hunt and that was with a four dog cast that got split some and we killed some time walking to turn out again. I think the cast winner had like 800 plus. Now if we didn't kill that time and we only had a two dog cast that didn't get split up in there WHO KNOWS how big a score the cast winner woulda had.

Just because something isn't done that way in one area of the country doesn't mean it don't happen in another area. Heck in our neck of the woods a ground hole will be a coon 99.9% of the time but I have hunted areas that if the dog was in a hole it was a 99% chance it was trash. Different areas of the country have different hunting conditions. Where they were at it is VERY POSSIBLE to have a score like that and I HOPE AND PRAY to get to be on a cast like that one night. I do however hope it is a four dog cast so Redtick can't start complaining LOL.

It's the same old story from Redtick, he ain't there but he knows someone cheated and falsified a score. Maybe because he never had a dog that could get a score that high. All I can say is Redtick SHUT THE HELL UP AND QUIT YOUR WHININNG, your just a big baby and most everyone here is getting sick of it. Why not use this message board for something useful, instead of condeming everyone and their dogs and bragging up the dogs Mr Clemons trained without giving him the credit

Two of my buddies hunted out of the GreenCastle club on Fri. night. One won his cast with +275. I spectated on his cast, one dog got off by himself and wouldn't get treed. He would open just enough to keep the eight from getting him, and they would release the dogs back into him. This happened over and over, 7minutes and fifty seconds after the tree was scored he opened, 7mins and 30 seconds the next, 6 minutes 48seconds another. If they would have got to turn loose in some different patches instead of back into him I think they could have made a substantially better score. That 8 minute rule eats a lot of time in a case like that.

I did hear of several casts not scoring on any coon and several that just scored on one or two.

I think +1750 is very possible and would be a fun cast to be on.

Kev, nice to see you again also my friend. Sorry to hear about the theft, there's always a crook hanging around the outhouse. They had thefts again in North Vernon so I heard, one of these day's they'll be caught and we can gather up all the rope in Texas and find a cottonwood.

Hell I'd like to be in a 1000 point cast. I was in a casts a while back where 350 won it and we treed 2 hollers and were in some **** thick coon. However one tree too about 25 minutes........TCB

Why comment on these hunts if you don't even participate & weren't even there???How much drama does a guy need in his life???Kinda reminds me of a hunt they held in Hillsdale, MI. last spring. And I quote...."I heard 67 dogs got scratched fer fightin'!!!"......."I heard half the casts got lost trying to find satellite clubs & couldn't hunt!!!"Why make these accusations based on hearsay & gossip when you weren't even there???
As far as hunting more than Ray does.....set the crack pipe down & get back to reality with the rest of us. I believe this was the same individual who complained it was too hot to run dogs at night this summer.At least Ray was at the hunts this year & has the win slips to prove it. He also doesn't make lame excuses when he loses.He's also never "too busy" to go hunting with other hunters. Have a good day!
