Rules Question About Garmin

I was told that UKC has a rule that states you cannot carry a garmin tracking device on a cast even if it is turned off. Is this true?

rules says it may be turned on but left in the truck. i dont see why you couldnt carry it while it was turned off.

*20. Any person caught using any device used to control or locate dog during hunting time, will be barred indefinitely. GPS locating device may be turned in the on position during hunting time but only if transmitter is left in vehicle. Transmitters for electronic training collars must be left in vehicle and may not be used by handler or spectators until dog wearing device is scratched and all other dogs are recovered for re-casting. (For time out periods see rule 6(l).) Lighted collars are not considered to be a locating device and are allowed.

You can carry it on you so long as it is turned off. And you must show any cast member if requested.

These are the answers i was expecting. Now how do you suppose I convince members of a neighboring club that this is the case. They tell me no matter what it must be left in the truck and that since they called allen g? that they are correct and I will be scratched for having it on me in the off position. Maybe i should stay hunting the other KC?

Tried that but it was like matching wits with an unarmed man. They read the rule and still argue that no matter what it must be left in the truck. Maybe they can't comprehend what they are reading. I read it and it seems so plain.

Jason, it is covered under rule 20. The rules for all locating devices are the same. QuickTrack, Maximas, Garmins are all the same in terms of the rules. They must be powered OFF while the clock is running.
Those club members that say otherwise are confusing electronic training collars (TriTronics) with GPS. You CANNOT carry your TriTronics with you on the cast. You CAN carry your GPS or any other locating device with you as long as it is powered off.

Here is how you should handle it.
Carry your Garmin, when they scratch you , ask for a cast vote on the scratch then put your question on the card after they vote against you. Then make the cast return to the club to have the question heard. Now take rule 20 to the MOH. If he rules against you, file a Formal Complaint. You will win the complaint, get your 20 bucks back and the the cast you drew at that hunt will be disqualified by UKC. That should straighten out that club on the Garmin rule.

Why not send this question right to Allen in a pm. Then print his answer. Be fun to watch what happens when you show it to the people that "called" Allen. To funny!!!

scratched for electronic device

you guys dont forget that there was a guy at a previous world semifinals was scratched for useing an electronic coon squaller:
ukc rules state that the use of any electronic device is prohibited during time in!!!!!!!!!



alot of states bans the use of electronic calling devices for anything other than crows and coyote.
there for ukc does not allow electronic coon squallers in any cast in any state.

I don't believe anyone said anything about having it on during time in. Just carrying it so that if time out is called you can find your dog and your way back to the truck.
