New Marshal GPS Tracking Unit(field trail report)

#1-NO telephone service needed
#2-NO antenna on collar or handheld
#3-NO dropped collars(works of UNI-WORLD Satelites
#4-Able to pick up BEEP BEEP collars(but will not continuously track them like GPS collars)
#5-handheld looks similar to Garmins but screen is bigger, buttons are in one line.
#6-testers are getting 5 to 15 miles with no break in service, they claim longer ranges.
#7-collars are day-glow and are 100% water resistant FOR LIFE
#8-Tree switch isn't off the position of the collar, uses a series of vibrations to trigger barking or bird dogs lack of movement.
#9-Downfalls----not made in the USA,will not be ready til May 09,have not found a carrier to manufacture GPS chips as of Dec01.09...TOPO will not do it(patented problems),price will be around $650.00 US dollars
#10- 3 year warranty
Can't tell my source but they don't work for marshal they worked for the company that will ad in marketing the unit. And then I woke up and realized I was just dreaming or was I?

Marshall GPS

First off let me start by saying I'm the National Hound Rep for Marshall Radio and it's true we are coming out with a GPS/Telemetry System. We are just now getting ready to put it in the hands of our field testers and will make sure it performs to our satisfaction before being released. We have takin into account the problems that other GPS system users have shared with us over the past two years and we are focussed on building the best system a hunter could hope to have. Marshall has built it's reputation on range and this system will take range to new levels in the tracking world. Unlike the post implies our products are made in the USA at our factory in North Salt Lake, Utah and do come with a three year warranty. If all goes well in the field testing we should have this system ready by late summer- early fall, but to get true up to date info keep checking our website www.marshallradio.com as we usually do not post on boards. Thanks for taking time to read this! Dennis

Dennis

If you happen to read this, I believe it will be the next big hit for coon hunters if they can afford it. Marshall is a great product, but can be a little pricey. Even if it does more then a Garmin, it needs to cost the same money.

Now some of the things I would like to see different is.
1- consistency in its range when comparing it to another
2- The best charging points on the collars with a cover
3- Have it right the first time, no on going updates.
4- A good warranty.

We are currently updating the website but the news won't come until the testing is complete. Price can't be determined at this time because testing isn't complete and we don't know if we have to change anything. As far as warranty goes all our products come with a three year warranty as stated before. Charging shouldn't be an issue cause at this time all our products come with changable batteries that you can buy anywhere and not have to wait for your collar to be repaired or charged. Thanks for the interest! Dennis

GPS

I'll stick with my Garmin. They've got a whole lot more experience with GPS than Marshall does.

Rob...

they may have more experience with gps, thats where it ends, this is their first attempt at a tracking collar, unlike Marshall. Marshall KNOWS what a hound hunter is looking for, unlike garmin, hense the regular collar integrated with the gps. If garmin knew what they where doing they would of came out with this first, my dogs necks are only so long.

you heard from that dumpster hunter latley?

Cant wait for somebody to come out with the GPS that has the satellite image like google earth . Has anybody heard any rumors from Garmin or maybe this new Marshal about having satellite images instead of topo images ?

Another idea for the product development team...

How about a profile screen? Living in the mountains of WV, I have found that it would be nice for an elevation shot of the terrain between me and dog. As many knows a straight line walk to the dog is not always the easiest or fastest.

In fact it seems like technology can do just about anyting these days, how about something that plans the "best route" for me. The flatest route, or maybe direct me to the nearest jeep trail, or bench that brings me in close. I'd buy that one!

Dennis lots of hunters out there including deer and coon hunters are hopeful that there will be a better system out there. I saw the references to GPS have been removed from your webpage. Is the project dead or close to release. Garmin sure could use the competition.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Yeah id like to have a tracking system with more than a 250yd range. I agree Marshell does know what hunters want, hope they do come out with something.

I dont see anything at all about it on their website now?. Something must not have worked out?

Posted by Whordel on 01-18-2013 05:17 PM:

I just talked to Marshall.Said they were still working on it but were a long way from production.
