Rule Question
You are hunting in clean spaced out woods like a orchard and all the dogs are treed on the same tree. Time is up and you are walking into the tree and can plainly see the coon looking at you. All in the cast see it and say so. Do you just leash up your dog walk a ways and recast or do you have to tie them up and shine the tree or what?

Your not supposed to shine the tree till the 10 is started , but sometimes you'll see a coon eye as your walking in. In that case catch the dogs , start the 10 and plus 'um up and move on.

Tie them
And start shine time. coon seen other than during shine time can NOt be scored.
Leash them step back start shine time, coon seen , recast 30 seconds used and you went by the rules.

Can you start the 10 before you get to the tree if you see all the dogs and every one agrees with everything?

in the rules the dogs must be leashed before shining the tree. failure to leash your dog before shine time begins is a scratchable offense.

I had this happen in a hunt one time. Everyone saw the coon walking in. Handled the dogs, started the time and couldn't find that coon again. No coon, no hole, no nothing. Not even enough leaves to circle it. We minused it and went on. Never did see that coon again.
Well wouldn't it count if everone saw it?

A majority of the cast must see the coon during the 10 minute shinetime. That is the rule. You see the coon anytime before the clock starts, it doesn't count. You see it anytime after the clock stops it doesn'y count. You have to see it during the 10 minutes. That is the rule.

Thats about it.
Grady, I have had the privilege of seeing some great time managers in action and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. A really good handler will usually also be carrying the scorecard and knowing it takes a very good score to win at the Purina level, will start right out by announcing to the cast that "we are gonna try to be at the tree when the five is up everytime we can". In other words, they aren't standing there with their hands in their pockets while that five is running, they are easing towards that tree, willing to stop and listen anytime a castmember needs to. If they are more than 5 minutes away, you better be a dam fast walker. But the goal is to be close to the tree when that five is up. And they aren't walking 10 minutes to recast with clock running, if you need to get 300 yards away from the tree to recast so your dog don't go back, you are out of luck, they aren't dogwalking with the clock running. Most of the time they will call time as soon as that tree is scored if they can. Anything to save time within the rules. It's all about time management. And then they draw a dog that boohoos all night and keeps the cast in the same patch all night and it all goes down the drain no matter who you are.
all dogs are treed,no need to wait on the time
Thank you Jim, I have allways wanted to be a spectator at a night champion cast or big hunt or something. Pretty low key at the hunts I have been to. The fast walking would get me. If I ever get a good prospect I will have to find a handler for anything serious. Will any of them work for part of the dog if they think they can win with it?
